Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone’s review

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is the first book of the Harry Potter series. Known worldwide for it’s majestic plot and unique characters, the Harry Potter series has brought a ‘boom’ to the books and movie market. The first book, Harry Potter and the sorcerer's stone opens up the world of magic by telling readers how the now famous characters, Harry, Hermione, and Ron were able to come together as friends and become the Hogwart’s main wizards. The book explains in depth of how the world of wizards and the world or non-wizards, also called as ‘muggles’ live in a co-existing world. Through the first Harry Potter book, readers are able to be introduced to how Hogwarts, the school of magic is first brought upon Harry and his friends. Readers are able to learn the new world of magic with Harry, and the author JK Rouling makes sure that the book gives fun, excitement and suspense to readers.

The life of Harry Potter starts out when his parents are murdered by the evil wizard Voldemort. Although the dark wizard tried to kill young Harry as well, his magic suddenly failed and Harry had survived the tragedy with only a lightening scar on his forehead. From that day on the evil sorcerer Voldemort had vanished without a sight and Harry became a famous celebrity in the magical world known as the boy who had lived.

Although he was a celebrated figure in the magical world, Harry lives in a brutal environment with his aunt and uncle, the Dursleys. Harry was an unwanted burden to the Durselys. Harry had to live in a cupboard underneath the staircase where spiders would crawl all over the walls and ceiling. He would be bullied by his nephew Dudley constantly and there was no one to offer him any kindness. However Harry who had always been the boy the Dursleys hated and ignored, has a sudden change in his life when Hagrid, Hogwart’s gatekeeper comes to find him for his entrance to Hogwart’s school of wizardry and magic. At the sudden change of worlds, Harry who has never even heard of any wizards or Hogwarts, learn that he is from another world. A world where his parents lived in and where he belonged. By attending his first year at Hogwarts, Harry is able to meet Ron and Hermione his first true friends. The three friends go through hardships and happiness together at Hogwarts and Harry finally is able to find his real self.

The author JK Rouling shows a detailed writing style of the Harry Potter series, where she grabs the readers’ attention and lets them dream on about the world of magic. The way she described certain events and the features of characters lets readers imagine and believe in the world she has created. Also the author adds humor and different styles of dialogue which differentiates the characters from themselves and makes each character have it’s own features that stand out to readers.

The Harry Potter series are already a highly recommended books for readers from all grade levels and even adults. I personally think the Harry Potter series should be a definite choice for young adults. By reading the Harry Potter series teenagers will be able to enhance their imagination and reading skills.
