I awoke to a loud slam. I sat up and rubbed my eyes and looked over at my clock, it was 3:46 a.m. I just assumed it was my older brother going to the bathroom, because his room is right next to mine. I laid back down and went to sleep. The next morning I walked upstairs to get some breakfast and my brother was sitting at the table eating cereal. I walked over to the cupboard and pulled out a bowl and made myself some cereal. I sat down across from him and asked, “Why were you up at 4 last night slamming doors?” He looked at me, confused and said, “I went to bed at 12 and didn’t get up until morning.” I knew he was lying.

We were home alone and I was still kind of pissed my brother had lied to me so I walked into the living room to watch television, which I did for a good hour. I got bored and walked down to my room to grab my phone so I could watch videos. I grabbed it and in the corner of my eye saw a blinking red light. I looked over to the corner of my room to see a video camera which hadn’t been there before. A shiver ran down my spine, as I realized that someone had put that in my room and it had been my door that slammed shut.

Panicking, I called my brother down and asked him if he put that there, hoping he would say yes. He came in and I pointed at it, and a look of fear washed over his face. “Call the cops.” he said. I grabbed my phone and my brother ran into his room and yelled, “Jesus!” I ran in and saw the video camera in his room. He grabbed a chair from his desk and stood on it and ripped the camera off the wall. There were no wires attached to it, just a place for batteries.

My brother ran up the stairs and to the computer, he typed in the ID number on the camera and it came up with the brand of camera. It was a cheap and low quality one that you could find anywhere online. My brother clicked on it and read through the facts about it. “Oh my god.” he said horrified. Then I saw what he was looking at. The cameras didn’t record. They were live, and my heart sank when I read the text below that. It read, “On your cellular device, the camera can only be monitored from twenty feet or less away.” My brother and I looked at each other, and then the closet door handle between our rooms started to turn.
