History repeats itself; of this we’re well aware.

And we are all affected by the lessons that we share.

But many people just don’t learn, I think you will agree,

From shattering, momentous times

Like 70 C.E.

Governments have come and gone e’er since our time began

Starting with the ruler of first woman and first man.

And the lesson learned back then, as far as I can see,

Is one that has repeated, just like

70 C.E.

He who rules the Universe, Jehovah, as we know him,

Has all through time allowed the governments to rule below him.

Knowing centuries ahead just how they’d come to be

Just like he knew what would transpire in

70 C.E.

Romans ruled the Jewish land; the Jews pushed at the goads.

The Romans pushed e’en harder, adding to their heavy loads.

The Jewish leaders searched for help in written prophecy

But took no note of signs that led to

70 C.E.

And so Jehovah sent his Son, Christ Jesus, to this earth

To talk of change in government, of blessings and rebirth.

The Jews got all excited, for now surely they would see

Their freedom from those Romans before

70 C.E.!

But Jesus didn’t set them free, as they all did aspire.

(His Kingdom was set for the future, in a place much higher.)

They failed to see how Christ fulfilled their scrolls of prophecy

And so they had a lot to lose in

70 C.E.

Christ told them how they could protect themselves on that dire day

When Rome would send their armies, wipe their system all away.

But they just wouldn’t listen, and they killed him. So, you see,

They sealed their doom when armies came in

70 C.E.

The Roman armies came to squash the Jewish insurrection.

And though the Christian Jews had fled away and to protection,

The greater number stayed behind, and suffered miserably

When town and temple were destroyed in

70 C.E.

Today we live in times unmatched, with trouble, grief and strife.

The world seems so unstable, with no guarantees for life.

But there is now a message going out o’er land and sea

That history will repeat itself like

70 C.E.

For Christ now reigns in heaven and we’ll witness soon his action

To change all government on earth to meet God’s satisfaction.

And all those who refuse his rule will soon forever be

Like things forgotten in the past, like

70 C.E.
