Summer Tires
Written by Lauren White

…the tires spin like summer swings and I heard his heart beating and thumping and booming as if it were escaping as if it knew I can hear it too and the stars shone with knowing glares as they spin in the dusting pavement the tired road we left behind us and trees loomed over pretty walkways with couples gliding in the summer air and then my fingers began to itch for comfort as the music lulled and the weather rotates and spins above like the towering heavens and my hand found another again and I felt the salt of sweat the trembling of nerves and it was finally right everything was right in the warmth of the car in the heat of summer and his lips began to twitch as they shone red in the flickering streetlights as we made our way towards the waves towards the pull of the horizon and then I felt the warmth upon my face as my cheeks turned red and my breath became hot with excitement as we pulled away and the summer air hung suspended above my head spinning with emotion as the tires began to roll again throwing rocks at the curbs and throwing dust in puffs of smoke that met heaven halfway and the moon smiled in yellow brilliance down upon us as if it knew and it had known and it will forever know as we continued to move along upon spinning rubber and swaying and smiling and glowing with a new sense of belonging for we had found it we did and we knew we had so we held it close in the glow of the pavement under spinning sky and moon and stars and summer tires as we slowed we stopped up the drive and it was silent at once but his eyes sang and swam and spun and sparkled with blue waves and we were reminded again of our luck we had found it on this one perfect night it is perfect and alive with breathing and wonder for the future for we could never see this coming and we could never see where we were going and now we have arrived and have found it I had found it on his lips in his hair his palms he was trembling and real and so alive in the blazing heat he was perfect with the spin of his gaze the thump of his pulse we were alive and healthy and free for we had found it we had searched and finally found love…
