Take a Seat

By: Nwachukwu Lawson Luke

As I sat me down on a stool to study
I couldn’t get myself to focus steadily
I was soon wearied of my old Physics textbook and drifted off to sleep
For I lazied away, thinking—
“Behold, the day is still faraway,

I shall study some other day.”
But I never did study another day
I cared not to read, not even a stint
Till I met my day of reckoning
Till doom came up knocking
Oh! How I ignored to my own peril
Now the day is here for real
At last, I sat me down to take my test

And I heard Miss Claire say, “Try to do your best”

Take a seat now my anxious soul

Life's not always about being first.
