Don't cry.

Whatever you do, don't cry

Let them kick you if they must

Let them tear your drawings

Stand on your hands till your fingers crush

Just don't cry.

Spit in your face,

Words poisoned with hate

Scratching, punching, pinching

They have to stop sooner or later

Just don't cry.

Wish for a bigger brother

Or a snarling snapping dog

Wish for a father or mother

Just don't cry.

They tear your clothes

They tear your soul

They bruise your heart

Your ten years old

Just don't cry.

A voice announces dinner time

And then they disappear,

You're not hungry, slam the door

Now you can shed your tears.
