The Dream

The dream that takes me in

wakes me in a thick sweat

shoves me in a deep hole

and shears the skin from my scalp,

Fills me a sweet, flowing burn

that glows from inside

as I pull at my nails

and tear at my hide.

Am I awake or I am I asleep?

I never know

the dream is so deep.

It carry's me swiftly

from dessert to sea,

from down in the ground

to all above me.

Yet the passion that flows from

its warm gentle breeze,

can be so abrupt

you fall to your knees.

You worship the thought

of a bright sunny day,

and narrow your mind

to keep it away.

So close your eyes now

shut them real tight,

keep out the dream

It comes again tonight.
