EKREBUO COMMUNITY BRIEF HISTORY ON EKREBUO COMMUNITY BY ( ONAKPOBERUO CLEMENT EJAITA, 07036784700) OF DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY, ABRAKA NIGERIA EKREBUO COMMUNITY EVOLUTION Ekrebuo is a community in Agb?n Kingdom Ethiope East Local Government, Delta state. In the olden day, there was a man called Ebuo, this Ebuo was a son of ?rhoakp?r who found the town ?rhoakp?r called after his name today. Ebuo have wives and children at ?rhoakp?r before he died. After his death, his children now relocate from ?rhoakp?r to inhabit in a place they are today because there was their father’s farm land before he died. The place is being called after their family’s name ‘Ekrebuo’. Ekrebuo simply means family of Ebuo (family of many). It was this family of Ebuo that came from ?rhoakp? to form the town called Ekrebuo today. There are four major pioneer families in Ekrebuo, which are; i. Ekakab? ii. Idjezue iii. Ibluvwe iv. Oghorieavwaren The community is surround by four neighbouring community; i. Otorho-Agbon to the East, also known as “Usiokolo” ii. ?rhoakp?r to the South iii. Kokori to the North iv. Okpara to the West Ekrebuo Deity and Festival The major deity of Ekrebuo is called ?ghwarhe?ghwakpo. Meaning; any evil that is coming should go back. It is known to be a saviour to every sons and daughter of Ekrebuo community that called the name in times evil. There is water in the shrine; it used to treat the people that have skin diseases, by sprinkling the deity water on the diseases’ body. The festival of this deity is usually held by December every year. It is called ?fa ?b?r? of ?ghwarhe?ghwakpo. The festival always last for three days. The first day which is the watching night, all the youth and some young priest will dance round the town visiting the chiefs and the elders. The second day which is the major day for the festival, the chief priest will lead the people to the deity shrine as they offer their sacrifices such as sheep, cow or goat. It is at this point that the deity water for treatment is been renewed. Then the third day the water is being sprinkle on everyone’s body for peace and good health.
