One by one the band kids march
To put their instruments away.
Exhausted, they discuss the various drills
They’ve learned throughout the day.

One student stands wondering what good comes
Of practicing so long and hard.
“I don’t want to be called a geek,
Or have my reputation scarred.”

The student then is pulled aside
and others try to help the troubled soul
They tell of pride and the unexplainable way
it makes you feel happily whole.

“The band kids make more than friends,
They become a family together.
They never walk the halls alone,
They’re always there, now and forever.”

“The band kids get to attend cool events,
And competitions are the most fun days by far.”
“The one’s who call you a geek,
Have no idea who you really are.”

“Everyone has their own reasons
For joining the marching band,
But the ones who never do,
Will never truly understand.”

“To do what you really love,
With a hundred friends who like it, too
Who are not afraid to cry and laugh
And enjoy playing music just like you.”

When school started, the student was proud to be a part of
The Milford Marching Band.
And as the student entered the new high school
Their new band friends were there to lend a helping hand.

Never again would that student question
The possibility of hating this sport
They had found a place where they truly belonged
And a new family, always there for support.
