The brilliant but unworldly sixteen-year old Maggie Mason decides to break with family tradition and leave Texas to accept a scolarship at the University of Alabama. Now, just shy of her twenty-first birthday, Maggie only lacks her dissertation to meet all the requirements for a doctorate. Seven years of study had been crammed into four to the detriment of a personal life.

Convinced that she's probably the only graduate student at the university who is still a virgin, Maggie vows to begin cultivating a personal life. The girl who had her life categorized from the age of twelve made a spur of the moment decision. She was going to become a law enforcement officer.

Maggie's superior, Captain John Johnson, is forced to recommend the newest recruit in the police department for a dangerous undercover assignment. Although the girl is a long way from being an experienced officer, Maggie Mason's aristocratic upbringing makes her the perfect candidate to portray the rebellious daughter of wealthy socialite parents.

The beautiful red-headed officer finds herself falling love with the scandalous Federal DEA agent, Max Anderson, playing the role of her drug-addicted lover. Two months following their brief but passionate affair, Maggie realizes she's pregnant.
