Lucy woke up early that morning. The first thing she tough about was that by tonight she will be married. After stretching and smiling of sheer happiness she fells the knots return to her tummy. Just then Eva walks in and draws the curtains open. Bright yellow sunshine spread over the bed and Lucy basks in the glow.
“Good morning soon-to-be Mrs Price”, she says and sits on the edge of the bed.
She looks like she has been crying all night.
“What’s wrong?” Lucy asks as she sits up in bed.
“Nothing Eva replies almost too quickly.
“Don’t lie, you look like you have been crying all night”, Emma says.
“Nothings the matter and even if there was I’m not going to ruin your day with it”, Eva replies as she smiles and pulls Lucy out of bed.

Lucy was twenty three years old and had been dating Perry Price since grade ten. Everyone believed they were made for each other. It was Perry who had kissed Lucy for the first time. She would never forget it. He insisted on walking her home everyday after school even though it was out of his way. Then one day out of the blue he pulled her into an alley way. He’s palms were sweaty around her arms. She knew what he was about to do. Then he slipped his arms around her waist and pressed his mouth against hers. Lucy closed her eyes and let him push his tongue into her mouth. Lucy felt the world spin around her and she slipped her arms around his neck. She was tingling all over. Afterwards Perry didn’t say a word. He merely took her hand and walked the rest of the way to her house in silence. He seemed so shy when he said goodbye and gave her one more quick kissed before walking in the opposite direction to his house.

A few weeks went by and Perry would repeat the routine everyday on the way to her house. Then one day out of the blue, before kissing her, he looked her straight in the eyes and said “I love you Lucy.” She was so happy.

He had also taken her virginity. Lucy smiled as she sat in front of the mirror in the salon while the beauticians were attending to her hair and make-up. She though back to that day. Perry had invited her to his house one night when his parents were out. They were both eighteen. Once again Perry was very nervous. Lucy knew she wanted to have sex with him that night. She hadn’t told him but she knew he wanted it to. They made out for what felt like hours before he worked up the courage to work his hand under her bra. After that he became almost urgent in his movements. He removed her top and bra and softly kissed her tender breast until her nipples were erect. He looked into her eyes so deeply and told her she was beautiful and he loved her more then anything. Lucy sat up and took his shirt of as a way of encouraging him. She unbuttoned his jeans and pulled them off dropping them on the ground. He followed her lead and did the same. He asked her if she was sure and after she answered she was he pulled out a condom. She was glad he had thought about that. It only lasted a few minutes that first time. And it hurt, Lucy remembered.

Lucy and Perry knew then already that they would spend the rest of their lives together. And applied to the same universities in order to be together. They moved in together straight after studying and Lucy though she couldn’t be any happier. That was until the day he proposed. Lucy fondly thinks back as Eva zips up her wedding dress. He had taken her to her favorite restaurant. He looked real nervous all night and was acting a bit strange. Then, right there, in the middle of the restaurant he got down unto one knee and proposed. Lucy was in heaven.

The next couple of hours is a rush and before Lucy even has a chance to breath she is standing in the brides room at the church waiting for the correct time to walk down the isle. Eva is still trying to rearrange her dress. Suddenly she stops and excuses herself to go to the bathroom. As she walks out the door Lucy thought she heard a sob but dismisses it as her imagination. She just stares at herself in the mirror for a little while. The door opens behind her and Richard walks in.
Lucy slowly turns around and says “Hello.”
“Hi. You look amazing”, Richard says.
“Thank you”, Lucy smiles. “Aren’t all brides supposed to look ‘amazing’”, she laughs.
He looks a bit awkward and smiles.
“Um… Lucy. There is something I think you should know”, he says.
“What”, Lucy answers. Becoming a little uneasy.
“Well, I have been meaning to tell you for a while now but I just never knew how to say it”, he starts.
“What is it?” Lucy asks walking over to him.
“Well… I don’t really know how to say this”, Richard says.
“Richard you are confusing me. What is it?” Lucy asks.
Richard closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. “Perry has been sleeping with Eva for about a year now and I can’t let you walk down that isle knowing that you don’t know.”
Lucy feels the color drain from her face and it feels like all the air is sucked out of her lungs.
“It can’t be true”, she finally says.
“I’m sorry Lucy”, Richard says and walks over to her, helping her sit down on a bench.
That you explain why Eva seems so upset today, Lucy thinks to herself. But how can it be true? Perry loved her and was about to marry her.
“How do you know?” she asks Richard.
“I’ve walked in on them a couple of times now. They always swear they would stop but after last night….” Richard trials off.
“Last night?” Lucy asks looking at him.
“Yes, last night”, he says sadly.
Lucy cannot believe what she is hearing. How could Perry do this to her? It can’t be true. How could Eva do this to her? She looks back up at Richard. He looks incredible sad.
“Why did you never say anything before”, Lucy asks.
“As I said they always swore they would stop and begged me not to say anything”, Richard said and looked at his hands. “I’m sorry to do this to you on your wedding day Lucy.”
“I don’t believe you”, Lucy says and looks at him. “I just can’t be true.”
“Go see for yourself if you don’t believe me”, he says “Eva had just asked if she could see Perry alone in the groom’s room.”
Take me there”, Lucy says.
“Lucy, are you sure?”
“Yes I am sure. I am about to get married to this man and I need to be sure.”
“Ok”

Richard leads Lucy down the passage way and stops in front of another door.
He turns to Lucy and says “You really don’t have to go in if you don’t want to.”
Just then Lucy hears what had obviously made him stop. They were doing it in there. She could hear them. They were actually doing it right now. Just before he was going to marry her. Lucy stepped past Richard and opened the door. At first she had a glimmer of hope that it was not them. But there they were. Eva was sitting on a counter with her dress around her waist. Perry was in front of her, thrusting in and out of her as he had done so many times with her. He’s pants around his ankles. They had not heard her open the door. Lucy went numb as she stared at them for a few moments. She opens the door wider and stood at the door. Unable to believe what she saw in front of her eyes. She almost wanted to laugh at their fright at the sight at her. At first they just stared back and then as if a film was suddenly unpaused they both sprang into action and try to explain. Lucy turned around not hearing what either of them was saying and walked back down the passage. She walked into the church she was about to get married in and looked at all the people sitting there staring back at her. Then she walked out of the church and started down the road.
