This is the intro to the book I'm writing in all free verse poetry form.

When I see him,

liquid lead pours into my stomach,
sinking it,
twisting it into knots.

Then,

my heart pounds,
throbs,

as if it wants
to escape my chest,
explode into the
millions of colors of
emotions I've ever felt,

as if it wants
to embrace him the way I want to,
to free itself to be with him.

When I see him,

my feet have quick-dry cement
keeping them frozen in place.

My lips get stuck,
preventing words from
slipping through my teeth
and making me look stupid.

The best part

is when my stomach,
my lead-filled, whirled belly
feels like it's being dropped
into a vat of boiling oil,

keeping me warm for the rest of the day.

When I see him,

it makes me wish
I wasn't such a wuss,
and I had the courage
to go up and say,

"Hey. What's your name?"
