I believe I have become blinded.

I have enclosed myself in a glass box

Yet can see the outside world

Through only a small hole.

The box is comforting, satisfying;

To leave it would be death.

Sometimes I have moments of Awareness

In which a glimmer of the outside world

And its consequences become clearer to me.

But the sides of my box immediately

Push tighter on me

And I'm back in my world once more.

Others seem more Aware than I

But I don't like to listen and so

I shut them out.

I have become blind

By the one thing that drives people mad

But I can't stop it

And the hole won't seem to get any bigger.

I believe by the time I realize

What I've done

My box will have shattered

Along with me inside it.
