"And then, the monster will GET YOU!" Amanda shouted at Derek. I walked into the living room. "Amanda, stop tormenting your brother." She got up and left the room. "Mommy, is it true that when you get hiccups, it keeps the monsters away?" I was dumbfounded. "What? Did Mandy tell you that?" He nodded. I shook my head "Derek, they're no monsters. They aren't real." Derek looked at me like I was lying. "It's okay mommy, I'm a big boy now. You can tell me the truth." I just stared at him. " I am telling the truth..." Derek just stood up and walked away. Later that night, I got up and used the restroom. When I passed Dereks' door, I heard awkward wheezing. As my heart flew into my stomache, I realized they were hiccups. I sighed, walking to the bathroom. When I walked back through, it sounded like the hiccups stopped, but when I peeked through Derek's door, his covers covered hiim all but his eyes. "Baby, what's wrong?" His eyes were locked behind the door. "You lied to me, mommy."

"You lied to me".
