The 70's Child has far to go......
She was taught when young "You must try hard and you'll succeed"
She was taught at school (well just about) how to write and read.
She was told in Maggie's mantra "keep going and you will gain"
She was told " you must sacrifice yourself, it's all worth the pain'.

"Don't speak until to your spoken to", the generation before.
Echoes still remained, know the phrase? You'll know the score!
They used to say "Treat people as you'd like to be treated",
Replaced now with "Tweet as you'd like to be Tweeted"?

Employers now seem scared by experience of 25 long years,
Their attitude to her could reduce this grown woman to tears,
She has learned in truth, that there is so much more to life,
But, she should've learned perhaps  from other's people's strife?

The career ladder we're taught to climb, easily won, and easily lost,
"Let the old ones  go" they may  say....still,  yet....... at what cost?
She could ask her 28 year old self maybe? "what would you do"?
"Do not employ this much experience".. she'll be a threat to you?

So  take heed  you 30 something's, at the pinnacle of your career,
Enjoy life, don't sacrifice too much, be too dedicated or sincere,
Don't work too hard, don't lose your head , your husband your wife,
It all will be irrelevant, the clock still ticks slowly away at your life.

Just have those kids, take time off sick, best not spread those germs,
Go to sports day, drop them at school, life is not measured in terms,
Better to delight at last in the mess your grandchildren will make,
Don't  follow the career path, you'll be obsolete, for someone else's sake.

The 70's child is full of woe.............................................
