I was watching a game of ball a few years ago and all these older players were having the time of there lives.

Old man, Old ball, Fun for ALL

L. F. Young

25JULY2000

Crack of the bat,

Sore bones, aching back,

Kicking dirt, pitch flies,

Slow to start, knee burns,

As I view, I have much to learn,

With a wind-up and throw,

That’s slower than a mole,

As the day dwindles and dies,

Eyes burn from the try,

Freshly mowed grass,

Pot holes all about,

Sleeping at the base,

Over thrown run,

And a chance to score slips away,

A sparrow sings to one and all,

Her melody of love from one so small,

Stained knees, dirty jeans,

A soft scented sweetness on the breeze,

As the game ends hands are clasped,

Friendship passed,

The field stands empty,

Old Man, Old Ball, Fun for ALL
