Upon A Tightrope

I am suspended,
Upon a tightrope—
A thread of life I am contended
To hold onto with my feet—to hold onto with my hope.

I am dancing
Along to the lofty music
As if I were playing and prancing
On a stage where everyone can see me so eccentric.

I am the attention
Of a thousand eyes
Gazing with awe at my ascension,
As I twirl and jump in a costume as my guise.

I am the slight of foot
Treading this thin vein
With such finesse as I land underfoot
And the applause rings like the clap of rain.

I am soaring to new heights,
Yet the one thousand faces seem appalling
As their eyes grow ever larger—one thousand spotlights
Following me as I am falling.
