The concept of love is lost in our society. Media portrays relationships and crushes to be the epicenter of every thought, word, and action in an individual’s mind, as finding someone to admire is the sole way to find ourselves.

We are trapped in a love affair of truth-telling and truth-seeking, and see love in only that way. It is not the content, but the capture, and as quickly as the excitement builds, it also fades as we realize that no person has the power to be everything we need.

Young love does not exist. Their hope lies in their hearts, not in their heads as it should. The way one spring season spills into the next as the way one infatuation of desire spills into another; the cycle of discontent never ceases.

We strive to discover the perfect match, but how is that possible if we are unable to find ourselves? You cannot match a heart to the thin air of nonexistence. Therefore, people struggle to make themselves fit to their significant other, blind to their own irrational state of mind.

As Shakespeare quips: “Love is a smoke make with a fume of sighs,” the result of the heart’s actions that cause lovers to breathe heavily with hearts pounding, churning up their thoughts into an illogical form of romantic euphoria (1.1.197). Not until when we are are older, once we stop refusing to have our hearts broken, will love take tentative steps into our hearts, pushing out our petty lust.

Prior to this, we shall all subject ourselves to cerebral torture, filling the hollow quiet inside us with whoever shall come along.

But hope shall survive, in spite of everything; the way nostalgia secretly persists.

Love will, eventually, find a way.
