Behind me a war was raging, people I loved, my friends, my family all fighting against one another.
I told myself I wouldn’t look back, but how could I not?
I don’t know what lies ahead, but I was hoping for something better. I was leaving the fight, I had given up, I might have been victorious had I tried a little harder, but I instigated more than I defused, talked more than I listened.  I was leaving now, learning from my mistakes. I was going to start a new life. I don’t know if things will be better on the other side of this vast ocean but the journey itself is reassuring. The waves rock me and I am comforted. They won’t know I’ve gone, not yet. It will be a process but I am determined to complete it, this transformation. Like a great warrior, I must find my inner strength. A great journey filled with sacrifice and honour. Pride and anger will no longer consume me and I will finally be free of this inner turmoil…
