Is it not that moment that every woman dreams of? Your man is on bended knee declaring his undying love for you. The proof to the world that you are desirable. The statement to others that you are chosen and worthy. I have been the chosen one three times in my life. The first was the boy of my dreams. A promise ring given with the innocence of trying to hold on to someone despite the impending changes of time. The second was placed on my hand as I slept. I was dazed and confused; which was the nature of that relationship. He likely realized if he had asked I surely would have declined. The third was on bended knee. I was presented with roses and a huge princess cut diamond. Something I would have never chosen for myself. The entire arrangement felt more like a business deal and it was meant to impress. The ring and the resume were better than the reality. I admit I was flattered by the shine and allure. I do not consider myself materialistic but we are drawn to pretty things. As Tolkien said “All that glitters is not gold”. The real emotion does not require a ring or any - thing at all.
