I was communicating with a dear friend and I created a series of short stories to express my past and wishes for the future in terms of an ecosystem the swans (haves) and ducks (have nots). I am a teacher of ducks so to speak and he a builder of nests and protector of the ecosystem.
Each character is representative of the roles we assume in our lives - enjoy .

Walden Pondering

As the swan reveals her story to the dear swan as recommended by one of the dearest swans; she becomes very nervous and paddles in circles. She recognizes herself in his eyes.  She is not upset with his fuming but wants him to be healthy and fit as to remain in the pond with her as long as possible. But she sometimes paddles in circles so she completely understands this behavior. She had a couple of shrooms and opiates in her younger swan days; but her strong sense to protect herself and her dear swanling led her to the strict regimen she has mastered.
This entire process of revealing her song is both enlightening and tiring to her and her neck is heavy with worry that the dear swan may be completely overwhelmed. He may say what the flock and paddle quickly to a floater or back to his peace maker which he needs to build a bridge for. At the same time; she is driven to forgo nourishment and sleep to relay this message to him; as he is training other trumpeter swans to construct and establish twig support for their work.
All the while she is quite sure he’s likely observing some floaters because they are exquisite- every swan knows that.  He is likely fuming and imbibing in a watering hole or two because he is worried that she can see all of his dark feathers; which he tries to camouflage with his entertaining flapping and paddling. Although she can messenger pigeon when she completes this she feels like flying to the west and extending her wings to him as if to say” this is the best I can offer you for now. I am a skilled and graceful flapper and I was inspired by your warm expressions- and I am not a “squalker.” She is paddling furiously as she completes her song because she realizes while it was intended to be a protector’s day gift for him as she regards him as a magnificent one … it may have really been for her all along.
She knows if she cannot molt her feathers she will not be able to become the dear swan she is capable of being. Though she is extremely patient with other swans she hates the time it takes to complete – because she wants to be the most lovely dear swan she can be for her golden, elders, her sibling and especially for him. She too is pondering a watering hole or two upon dusk but is too tired to fly- it’s not her nature.
As dusk falls upon her quiet nest she extends a wing to her dear swan. She misses his touch on her neck feathers. She wants to let him know how grateful she is for reminding her that she was a dear swan all along. She wants for him to build his nests and protect the ecosystem and save her beautiful ducks. She wants him to share his swan song and in so doing; she knows he will have to build his bridges and mend his fences; it will help him release the last of his dark feathers and manifestinto the dear swan he is. Most of all, she wishes for him to realize he too was a dear swan all along who thought he was a trumpeter; and as did she raised two exquisite and dear golden swans. She senses he has many great travels awaiting him and he will be placed on perches by many for his gifts. She wants him to be adored unconditionally because she knows that is all he ever really needed- as did she. The whole nesting, coupling thing – she’s still pondering the idea and flapping and paddling in circles – because that is her nature.
