I don’t always have words to give you

Words for us, for you, for me

They fly into my head and then out again

Bright fluttering things, pretty but hollow, bright but lacking

Not enough for what I need you to see.

So let my hands write our story onto your skin,

Every meeting, every word, every look here in this—

This breath, this skin, these sounds and shapes in the dark.

Each touch a conversation, each caress a litany of unspoken words.

The scratch of nails saying, “I want you.”

The touch of hands vowing, “I need you.”

Your body, pressed against mine, promising, “I love you.”
