I wonder how no one notices.

How can no one notice the cuts? The burns?

How could they not see the bruises?

They're on my arms, my face, my chest- aching reminders that the world can be a horrible place.

But the bruises decorate my soul most of all-

they have made me bitter.

I once was alive and full of laughter-

but he has turned me to stone.

Now, the only comfort I get is God's love.

It is so pure, so light, and so all-consuming,

I can fall into His arms when I'm bleeding all alone.

He doesn't see me as a statue,
a beaten woman,
a failure.

He sees me as me.

He sees me as the beautiful lady I once was-
He sees the laughter,
the light,
He sees what once was.

Why can no one else see me like that?

They see me as invisible,
as stone,
as weak.

I scream in silence.
