Mr. Angel, I want to tell my story about me, you’re the only one who listens to me properly these days so I guess you’re the best person to start with.

My name is Ellie. Ellie Partway. I’m blind. I like to tell people this upfront, I don’t want them to treating me differently, but then, what’s wrong with being blind. Other than the fact that you can’t see, you’re no different from anybody else, but you already know all of this Mr. Angel so I’ll move on.

When I was really little I got some disease with a big, fancy name, and all the doctors could do was shake their heads and move onto the next patient who had more of a chance than me. I don’t ever tell anybody what the disease is, I don’t feel like learning it because I don’t wanna be parroting on about whatever disease it is every time I meet someone new. Besides, it isn’t good to label people, I don’t want to be known as the girl who couldn’t see, I want to be known as the girl with the big smile and could always make you laugh. You see, that’s what I really want Mr. Angel, to stop being labeled, it really gets to me, so I’m just going to tell you about today.

Well, I’m going in for an operation to change all that stuff I was telling you about, you know, being blind. I’m fifteen years old today, on the 1st of September 2027. Five years exactly since they figured out how to fix people like me, I’ve been on the waiting list a while but it’s ok now Mr. Guardian Angel, ‘cuz when I wake up I’ll be able to see my mom and dad for the first time since forever.

I don’t see you no more Mr. Angel. When I woke up you were gone, but boy, there was a lot of new stuff that was there. I really like colours, they’re pretty cool, today the doctors are going to show me the colour blue. I know that you’re going now, Mr. Angel, Sir. I just want to say this is the best thing you ever did give me. Take care now and look after them other kids good, just as good as you looked after me.
