I hold my breath and count to ten
Then push it down and lock it in.
Twelve more times it adds up soon
And threats to burst; a dry lagoon.
Push me hard and make me strong,
Don't break now you've held so long.
It pounds and screams and wraps my lung,
But still I hold my silver tongue.
My thoughts are jumbled,
Lies all crumbled,
I let one slip and the rest have tumbled.
It all spills out; my mind it reels
To make some sense of all it feels.
Pouring and gushing there's nowhere to hide;
All the anger and hurt ever locked up inside.
And finally there's freedom from the voices of all;
Each seething opinion or heartfelt fall.
The tension they brought goes out like a light
and with wings like an eagle I laugh and take flight.
Never again will I battle my mind
To hold back the things that will only bind.
