I breathed in deeply. This can’t be happening, couldn’t be happening. Yet here I was, standing still, frozen to the spot. Around me flickered the candles as unbound shadows danced around the room playfully. I looked up and there he was before me, covered in his slick, silky, black suit that must have cost, as always, a small fortune.

I stared into midnight eyes and felt my heart jump a beat. My gaze through slightly entranced by this wonderful creature almost faltered in submission as he focused on me directly, like a hunter focusing on his prey. And I was the prey. He took a pace forward and I felt my heart beat rapidly; my breathing quickened and my legs went numb like jelly as adrenaline flushed through my body. He always had that effect on me.

I looked down quickly, feeling like a thief who had been caught eying a forbidden treasure. Yet not a second later, his footsteps echoed along the polished, wooden floorboards coming closer, closer and closer. Stop.

My pulse was now racing, causing me to take deep, shallow breaths. I couldn’t break my concentration. Too late.

I felt a warm, soothing hand cup me under my chin and my head was raised gently. I focused upon his face, hypnotized by his sharp, handsome features loosely curtained by his thick, dark hair like a fallen angel. I stared at him for what seemed to be forever. Here he stood before me: rich, mighty, the perfect body. So why was I standing here, when he could have almost anybody?

His rich, Irish voice whispered in the air and tickled my senses, then the next thing I knew his lips were upon mine. I jolted in surprise but immediately relaxed, comforted by the warmth. Such emotion in that one kiss. So much heat, like an outburst. An explosion. My body, heart and soul melted into one as I realised the truth. So I did the one thing I could do.

I smiled.
