I wrote this poem after returning home one night when I had been standing beside a lake in the dark. There was just enough moonlight to make the lake appear silver. I stood for a while and listened to the night sounds and felt comforted by the lake and its creatures.

The silver lake lapped at quiet shores

I lay distant...wanting more

Ancient mists hovered over its surface

I lay distant...wanting more

I could have stepped into its silken waters

But my heart was drowning itself in her beauty

Its quiet flowing into me and pulling me across

With the wind

I set it in my heart and closed my eyes against

Snowy Egret's cries

all pain disappearing into currents held back by the dam

never care again where I am

as long as the lake is

covering me
