Silent Goodbye
Weeks, months,
days, years...
A smile's equivalent
to the heart's tears.
Time has flown by,
though nothing has changed;
your presence is remembered
as they visit your grave.
The songbird's melody
makes it harder to take;
as the people gather 'round
hearts continue to break.
One after another lays
a single red rose there,
while granddaughter tries
to hide her tears.
Sister's there for comfort
as one slides down her cheek, too,
but Brother's big hugs
always come to the rescue.
One silent prayer for one silent goodbye --
to be blessed enough to cope;
one can always try,
one can always hope.
