Poetry.

He looks at her and tells her she's pretty.
She forces a smile and looks away.
He wonders how he got so lucky.
She wonders why he's lying to her.
He treats her like a princess
She wonders why she deserves it.
He constantly compliments her.
She wonders what she did to deserve him.
He tells her she's beautiful.
She wonders if they're looking at the same person.
He simply sees her beauty.
She simply sees her imperfections.
He tells her one day she'll see.
She thinks he's delusional.
He talks about the future with her.
She thinks it's too good to be true.

Putting a mask on, what an easy cover-up.
Smiling when you're feeling less than nothing,
it's nothing less than second nature.
Not a thought put into it,
seemingly as normal as breathing.
Maybe one day he'll see her for what she really is,
maybe he won't.
The trust is there somewhere.
A little searching and she'll find it one of these days.
Alas, until then, may it remain buried and untouched
in one of life's many little boxes of surprises...
