Do the fields of Yellow and Gold
Hold truths never to be told

She bows her head beneath the flowers
Sends heaven bound prayers to god

She begs forgiveness
For what she doesn’t know
What ever made her deserve this fate
The fate she must undergo

Her bruises and scars leave questions
These questions she leaves unanswered
Exposing the truth would go against god’s will
But god has long since left her

At only ten she doesn’t know
Whom she can trust
To whom she can go

She fears faulting and imperfection
Everything must be perfect to her daddy’s recollection
His belt makes her stronger
It makes her a “man”
But he seems to lash out whenever he can

Her heaven bound prayers don’t fly fast enough
Now she must be an angel
An angel without love

Love,

Cicely
