Status: Finished  |  Genre: Other  |  House: Booksie Classic

Based on the song "Tragedy Bound" by The Bravery. Warning, this involves kinda graphic themes.

The video above is the only one on youtube (that was good quality) that was of the song. Plus, I like this chick's voice.

Evelyn has just turned twelve years old a couple months ago. She stands in the center of her bedroom and slowly pulls her shirt over her head. She knows he's watching her. She cannot see him, but like always, his presence is known. Her hands tremble and she wishes for her mother, or anyone, to come and save her from her father's watchful stare. She knows it's not the way a father should be looking at his daughter. He never touches her, just watches curiously when she dresses.

This will end soon. She thinks as she slides off her training bra and pulls her pajama top over her head.

?

At the age of fifteen, Evelyn loses her virginity to a sixteen year old boy. It hurts, and she's uncomfortable, but he swears he loves her and she believes him. Evelyn's father walks in as the boy is leaving. She's still naked and scared; laid out on her small twin sized bed, exposed to the world. He grows angry and kicks the boy out of his home, chasing him out and cursing.

She dresses herself quickly, trying to calm her tears before her father comes back again and sees. Evelyn knows now that the boy does not love her, and won't speak to her again at school after this. When her father comes back, his breathing is harsh. The scent of alcohol fans out over her damp cheeks, clinging to her skin. His eyes go to places on her clothed body she knows aren't right, but she's too afraid of him to speak up. His glazed eyes raise to meet hers and his mouth twists into a sardonic smile as his palm connects with the side of her still child-like face.

This will end soon. She tells herself as her father continues to beat her. Please let this end soon.

She goes to school the next day black and blue, but the teachers have seen the bruises enough times to know not to ask.

?

Evelyn is close to seventeen and stands off to the side as her father's body is lowered into the nearly frozen earth. Her eyes narrow as mixed feelings rise within her. She doesn't understand them, but doesn't try to either. She brushes them off and walks away from him. Forever.

?

Now, Evelyn is an adult and lives in her own apartment with the boy of her dreams. She sits on the bathroom floor, her fingers shaking as she slides the sleek razor across her skin. Her father might be gone, but she still feels him watching constantly. She's been cutting herself for the past six months, hoping the pain will distract her from his eyes. Her boyfriend has suggested she seek professional help, but it only makes her temper flare and starts a fight between the two of them when he mentions it.

"Is there anybody in there?" her boyfriend calls out from behind the door.

Evelyn stares blankly at the blood dripping down her arm, not really seeing or hearing anything.

He barges in and scoops the razor out of her trembling hands. He's done this before, many times in fact. This is the fourth time this month. He frowns as he turns his back on her and a few tears run down his face as he wipes the crimson liquid from the blade and places it on the bathroom counter.

Evelyn raises her head and her eyes meet his before widening in fear. He kneels in front of her and takes her face in his hands. "Is there anybody in there?" he croaks, choking back a sob. He hates what her father has done to her--he's seen the scars and heard the stories--and wishes he'd met the bastard. He wishes he'd been there when Evelyn was a scared preteen, still growing into her own body. He wishes he'd been there to stop her from turning cold and void of all emotions. He wishes he knew what to say if he ever came face to face with the man. But mostly he just wishes he had been the one to pull the trigger on him.
