A poem about mourning over a lost loved one, yet knowing they are at peace and you cannot mourn forever.

My Mourning Dove

While driving down that winding road

I carried with me such a load

Of sorrow, grief, and regret

I didn’t think I’d lose her yet

Why do the good receive the bad?

While the bad have what the good should have had?

I suffer the loss of someone dear

I suffer thinking of the fear

That rested there upon her heart

Knowing I would be torn apart

But as she moved toward heaven above

A smile formed of truest love

For even though I mourn for her

I still am happy, just for her

Knowing she will no longer suffer

No more pain, no need to recover

For as I know she is in endless peace

My sorrow now starts to decrease

And even though I will move on

My new lost love is never gone

I will not forget my mourning dove

I will never forget my one true love
