Scene 1

A LAB-DARK-DESERTED-DESOLATE:

(The lights flickered on and off throughout the building. Camden walks around his room on the verge of giving up. He takes his tray of food and throws it against the wall. The door opens and Mr. X enters the room. He walks to the bed and sits down. Mr. X nods to the side of the bed in front of him. Camden slowly walks over and sits down on the bed. Mr. X shakes his head and chuckles to himself.)

Mr. X:

I must admit. When you asked to make that video and send that clone to your parents. I––was a bit off-guard. Trust that does not happen––often.

Camden Knight:

I just didn't want them to continue giving themselves for me. This way––no one has to get hurt. No one has to die.

Mr. X: (Smiles and laughs to himself.)

Remarkable. The way your mind works. It is a marvel.

(Mr. X moves his hand to rub it across Camden's forehead. Camden moves away terrified.)

Camden Knight:

I'm sorry. But, I don't like being touched.

Mr. X:

Understood.

Camden Knight:

What do you want with me?

Mr. X:

I want you to reach your fullest potential. To become something––truly remarkable. Camden you can go into the minds of others. Dead or alive. Then wouldn't it make sense for you to be able to say––enter the mind of someone in the middle––neither dead nor alive. And if you can––then what say you can't affect their mind. How they think, how they experience the world, their state of mind.

Camden Knight:

I don't know what you're talking about. I can't do that.

Mr. X:

Because you have no understanding, no faith in what you were born with.

Camden Knight:

You mean what you made me into. A freak.

Mr. X:

No. No Camden. You're not a freak. You are an amazing innovation of modern science. One––that I have to say I'm proud to have been a part of your creation. I guess––in a way––you're my son. And I'm your father.

Camden Knight:

I already have a father and a mother. Their names are Cameron Goodkin and Kirsten Clark. And they love me way more than you ever could. That's if, if you can even love someone.

Mr. X:

Love? (Chuckles.) Camden trust me when I tell you. The whole reason why I'm doing this––is for love.

(Camden stares at him confused. Mr. X turns away and looks down at the floor and sighs at the ruined breakfast. He looks at Camden.)

Mr. X:

I guess you’re not hungry. Well, enough chit chat for now. We'll talk later. Son.

(Mr. X leaves the room. Camden looks down at the bed. He stands up and walks over to the door. He tries to turn the handle to open it but fails. He stops and looks around seeing if there are any other escapes––nothing. Camden turns away from the door and slowly falls to the floor. He begins to shake and shudder in fear and desperation.)

Scene 2

STITCHERS LAB-CONFERENCE ROOM:

(Maggie is standing in the front of the room facing everyone's stunned and shaken expressions. Ayo stares at the table trying to find a way to explain the fact that Camden is still alive to everyone. Kirsten turns to Ayo.)

Kirsten Clark:

Is this true?

Ayo: (Looks to her.)

Kirsten––

Kirsten Clark: (Desperate and anxious.)

Is this true or not? Is my son alive?

Ayo:

Yes. I examined this Camden's body and found that there was a barcode on the back of his neck. Camden did not have that when I examined him before his stitch. Kirsten––I don't know how to explain this––but Camden is still alive. He's still out there.

Maggie Baptiste:

I had Ayo run a full autopsy on the fake Camden's body. Many genetic markers do add up to Camden's. However, some of them are very different.

Ayo:

For one, Camden's ability to heal rapidly comes from an accelerated growth hormone that increases his white blood cell count. That's why Camden can survive things like a suicide attempt or near heart stoppage due to a stitch. This one actually shows a rapid decrease in white blood cell count maybe due to the fact that his body was rapidly failing, when he was alive.

Kirsten Clark:

Ok, so now we know that this one isn't the real Camden.

(Looks at Maggie.)

So, now we need to go out there and find him.

Maggie Baptiste:

Kirsten you need to hold on for a second.

Kirsten:

No––

(Stands up and looks at everyone in the room.)

This is the second time I had to watch his lifeless body lying on the ground.

(Looks at Maggie.)

Don't make me do it again. Don't make me give up on my son.

Quincy Fisher:

Kirsten––who says we're giving up.

(Kirsten turns to him. Fisher stands up and looks at everyone. He turns to her.)

We all gave you our word that whatever you decide. We've got your back. That hasn't changed. Now, there's just more on the line. But, if we go in this blind, we're gonna lose, or worse.

Cameron Goodkin:

Fisher's right. We gotta take a step back and access the situation. Don't just fly in there half-cocked and get your ass kicked.

Kirsten Clark: (To Cameron.)

So, what do you suggest? We're running out of time

Camille Engelson:

We've gotta find something that he wants. Something that can unravel him. Something that will force him to make a mistake.

Maggie Baptiste:

All right, does anybody know what that is?

Cameron Goodkin:

The flash drive.

(Maggie looks at him.)

Think about it. It is the only card we have left. And it seems like he's very interested in it.

Camille Engelson:

I'd say he's more than interested in it. He nearly killed me just get his hands on it. And he did that knowing where Camden was.

Maggie Baptiste:

Figure out if there are any hidden files on there. I want to know what is worth all of this trouble. And then we'll have our ace in the hole.

(Turns to Kirsten.)

Kirsten, like Fisher says, we're all here to help you––and Camden.

Kirsten Clark:

Yeah, I know. I just––I know and thank you all of you. I know how crazy this whole thing has been. Thank you for having my back and my front and my sides throughout all of this.

Camille Engelson:

I made a mistake.

(Kirsten looks at her.)

I let my fear and my anger get the best of me. And I know I did some pretty shitty stuff when Linus was captured. But, I'm ready to take whatever risk I have to, to get Camden back. This guy is not going to win.

Cameron Goodkin:

Now that I think about it. We actually have two aces in the hole.

(Maggie and Kirsten look at him confused.)

Camden's clone. He's dead but his mind must still be fresh right?

Ayo:

His body was preserved and probably his mind too, but we don't know for how long.

Maggie Baptiste:

Cameron what are getting at?

Cameron Goodkin:

We stitch into him. If he died in the lab then that would mean he's seen everything that was in there. He could give us information that we could use to take this guy down.

Quincy Fisher:

But, Kirsten has never stitched into a clone before. We don't know what kind of effects it could have on her. Or, if it'll even work.

Cameron Goodkin: (To Fisher.)

We still gotta try. Right now we are batting zilch and all we have is a flash drive that we don't even have full access to.

Maggie Baptiste:

Stitching into Camden's deceased clone could give us information that we desperately need.

(Cameron looks at Kirsten. Her head is hung and she is silent.)

Cameron Goodkin:

Kirsten––we need to do this. I know what's probably going through your mind right now––

Kirsten Clark:

Let's do it.

(Kirsten looks at him.)

Whatever it takes.

(Looks to everyone else.)

 Let's get him back.

Maggie Baptiste:

Cameron, I want that boy's mind ready for stitching in the hour. We're working against the clock here. Let's get our boy back.

Scene 3

OVERSIGHT LAB:

(Camden is lying down on his bed. Suddenly, the door creaks open slightly. He sits up and looks at it. Waiting to see if anyone is there or would come in, however, no one does and it would seem the hallway is empty. Getting off of the bed and walking over to the door, Camden opens it a little to see if anyone's there. The hallway is empty. There is not a single guard or personnel around. Camden opens the door all the way and pokes his head out to look both right and left. Everything seems empty. Finally, after believing that everything is clear, he walks out of the room and down the hall. Camden walks as fast and as quiet as he could to not alert the troops. He walks down a hallway passed an opened door. He stops and looks at it watching Mr. X sitting down beside his daughter. Camden is suddenly filled with something similar to sadness and confusion. Mr. X has a soft and somber look on his face.)

Mr. X:

I thought you would try and escape. If you want, the door is two hallways down, first a right and then a left––can't miss it. However, it wouldn't matter. You see my men have orders to shoot you should you try and escape. And even if you did survive––we're deep into the woods. No one knows where we are. Miles of trees and bushes––very easy to get lost. So––Camden––you are faced with a dilemma. Stay and be my guest––or leave––and die. The choice is yours.

(Camden stares at him for a while not sure of what choice to make. Finally, he walks into the room and stands beside Mr. X.)

Mr. X:

Do you know the one thing that drives all men to insanity? The one thing that would make any man go completely mad? Lash out at the world in sheer rage and fury? Love.

(Mr. X shakes his head and chuckles to himself.)

Yes my boy, even a monster like me, can still feel love. It's one of the things that can still surprise me. Let's me know that I'm not completely void of a heart––at least not yet, anyway.

Camden Knight:

Who is she?

Mr. X:

My daughter. Afghanistan, 2003. Transport got hit by a landmine. Didn't kill her, but, a rock to the head left her comatose. She hasn't seen or heard from her husband or kids in––sixteen years.

(Camden looks at him surprised.)

Believe it or not kid. I'm not entirely a monster. (Starts to sing.) Of all the comrades that 'ere I had/they're sorry for my going away/and all the sweethearts that 'ere I had/would wish me one more day to stay.

(Camden steps back recognizing the song he's singing.)

Don't look so shocked boy. Who do you think taught it to you? That was the first lullaby you ever heard––I held you in my arms––and I sung you to sleep.

Camden Knight:

What do you want with me? Why go through all of this trouble––just to get me?

Mr. X:

You have the gift to enter into other people's minds and see what they've seen. Feel what they've felt. Experience what they've experienced. To you the mind is but a playground completely open to your access.

(Mr. X turns to him.)

I think––no, I believe, that you can do things––you've never even dreamed of. Perhaps maybe––even wake up a person who's comatose.

Camden Knight:

I––don't know if I can do that.

(Mr. X smiles and stands up. He turns to him and places a hand on Camden's shoulder.)

Mr. X:

I do.

(Mr. X grabs the side of Camden's head and lightly shakes it smiling at him with a hopeful look in his eye.)

I know you can do this. And we will prove that. In time.

(Mr. X pats Camden's shoulder and walks out of the room. Camden looks at the woman and walks over to her. He places a hand on her forehead and sees her, as a child, with her father learning to shoot. He then sees her years later in the middle of a warzone with a gun in her hand. Gunshots and explosions are all around her. Finally, a scene of her lying on the ground, unconscious. The scene shifts to a house and her sitting down at a piano. She turns around and smiles at him, in an instant the scene is covered in a bright white light forcing Camden back out, taking his hand off of her forehead. He looks at her and then quickly turns and walks out of the room. The woman's right index finger lightly twitches.)

FADE OUT

Scene 4

STITCHERS LAB-CORTEX:

(Camden's clone body is lying in the tank. Kirsten looks down at it trying to wrap her head around what she is about to do. Cameron walks over to her and looks at him.)

Cameron Goodkin:

It's weird, huh? Of all the things I've done for this program. All the things I will do. Stitching into the mind of a child, particularly my own son, never really entered my mind.

Kirsten Clark:

It seems almost––surreal. You know. Like we're trying to find Camden––

(Looks at him.)

And in order to find him we need––Camden.

Cameron Goodkin:

Yeah, but this is just a clone. It's not the real thing.

Kirsten Clark: (Looks at Camden's clone body.)

Doesn't matter. Real or not. It's still my son in there.

Cameron Goodkin:

Come on. We gotta get to our stations. Focus on getting Camden back. The real one.

(Kirsten nods her head in agreement. Cameron walks to his station. Kirsten turns and walks to the fish tank. She ascends the stairs and lies down in the tank. Cameron puts on his headset.)

Cameron Goodkin:

Ok Kirsten, are you ready to do this?

Kirsten Clark:

Yeah.

Cameron Goodkin:

All right everyone. This is the first time doing a stitch on a clone's mind. We don't know what kind of effect this can have. So, we're going to have to play it safe. Kirsten, the moment I see something going wrong I want you to bounce, no matter what. Is that clear?

Kirsten Clark:

Yes sir!

Cameron Goodkin:

Ok, time is against us, and we need to hurry––

Kirsten Clark:

Then let's stop talking and get this show on the road.

Cameron Goodkin:

Everyone ready?

(Everyone nods in affirmation. Cameron starts the stitch.)

INSIDE THE STITCH:

(Kirsten enters into the clone Camden's mind. She looks around and sees that she is in a lab. Kirsten sees a woman lying in a hospital bed in a coma. Mr. X and the clone are standing next to her body looking at her. Mr. X places a hand on the boy's shoulder and looks at him.)

Mr. X:

Are you ready for this?

(The clone looks up at him and nods his head. Mr. X steps out of the way allowing the clone to walk closer to the comatose woman. He places his hands on the woman's forehead and closes his eyes. His eyes open showing the same bluish-white glow that signals he's using his abilities.)

OUTSIDE THE STITCH:

Cameron Goodkin:

Kirsten, talk to me, what are you seeing?

Kirsten Clark: (Inside the stitch.)

I see Camden. I mean the clone. He's standing over some woman. I think she's in a coma.

Cameron Goodkin:

Can you make out what he's trying to do?

INSIDE THE STITCH:

(Mr. X looks on hopeful.)

Mr. X:

You can do this Camden. You can wake my daughter up.

OUTSIDE THE STITCH:

Kirsten Clark: (Inside the stitch.)

He's trying to wake her up. I think this Mr. X guy wants to bring his daughter out of her coma.

Camille Engelson:

Wake someone from a coma? Is that even possible?

Maggie Baptiste:

Whether it is or it isn't. This man is willing to kill for it.

Cameron Goodkin:

Ok Kirsten, approaching the death memory in 5––

INSIDE THE STITCH:

(Kirsten watches on in horror as she sees Camden experience pain. He is shaking violently as he tries to bring the woman out of her coma. A shock of electricity goes throughout the room and hits Camden making him fall back. Mr. X walks over to his daughter. She is still unresponsive. A doctor walks over to him and stands next to him. He kneels down and checks his pulse. It is barely there.)

Doctor:

I'm sorry sir. But, it was another failure.

Mr. X:

How long do we have?

Doctor: (Stands up and turns to him.)

Two years––give or take. Then her mind will give out and it will be impossible to wake her up. For all intents and purposes––she'll be dead.

Mr. X:

Then we shall have to wake her up before that.

(Mr. X looks at him.)

Make it happen doctor.

Doctor:

Sir, with all due respect. This is the ninth clone we've used––so far. When the original died doing this––we should've stopped. But, you made us go farther, and look at what we've done. The damage we've caused. These are children. For Christ's sake, stop it, kill the program, and release these boys.

Mr. X: (Turns to his daughter.)

Kill the program?

(Mr. X takes out a knife and quickly slices the man's neck. The Doctor knocks his head back, grabs his neck, and chokes on his own blood. He falls to the ground dead. Mr. X looks at the clone lying on the ground barely alive. He kneels down and looks him in his eye.)

Well, if the ninth didn't work, I'm sure the tenth will. He just needs to be––properly taken care of. Maybe give him some time to properly mature––aided with some help of course.

(Mr. X takes out a napkin and slowly moves it to the clone's mouth.)

OUTSIDE THE STITCH:

Cameron Goodkin:

Kirsten, death sequence. Get out of there now.

(Kirsten inputs the code and ends the stitch. She opens her eyes and sits up. Cameron walks over to her to see if she is all right.)

What did you see?

Kirsten Clark: (Breathing heavily.)

Enough. I saw enough.

(Kirsten hangs her head and tries to compose herself.)

FADE OUT

Scene 5

OVERSIGHT LAB-CAMDEN'S ROOM:

(Mr. X enters the room. He looks at Camden who is sitting down at the table. Mr. X walks over to the table. Camden does not respond. Mr. X takes a deep breath and walks over to the bed. The room they are in now has a window allowing the sun to shine through. Mr. X looks out at the sun, the trees, and the sky, and then looks at Camden.)

Mr. X: (Nodding to the woods.)

Do you like it? I figured––you could use a change of scenery.

(Camden does not respond.)

Your welcome.

(Camden remains silent. Mr. X looks away at the woods.)

Soon––I will need you to do something for me.

(Camden still does not pay attention to him. Mr. X looks at him out of the corner of his eye. He stands up.)

I know you don't like the situation that you are in.

(Mr. X walks over to him and places his hand on Camden's shoulder. He leans down close to his ear.)

But, I want you to know. That what you will be doing here in a few short hours, will change the world––forever. My only regret––is that you––probably won't be alive to see it.

(Camden's strong facade falters a little as he takes in a deep, frightened breath. Mr. X kisses him on the cheek and lays his head close to Camden's.)

Just know that your sacrifice will allow someone else the chance to live. I know you can do this––I know you can bring my daughter back to life.

(A tear escapes Camden's eyes as he hears that he will soon be dead. Mr. X leans away from him and stands up straight.)

I love you––son.

(Mr. X walks out of the room and closes the door. Camden looks at the door frightened. He looks at the window and suddenly gets an idea.)

FADE OUT

Scene 6

STITCHERS LAB-CONFERENCE ROOM:

(Everyone sits around the conference table listening to the information they have gathered on Mr. X.)

Camille Engelson:

I just––don't understand how it would be possible for someone to stitch into the mind of someone else and wake them up.

Kirsten Clark:

Well, it sounds like this person doesn't have long. The doctor in the stitch said she had about two years before she died.

Maggie Baptiste:

All right. So assuming that, that was two years ago. The woman is running out of time.

Quincy Fisher:

Yeah, and this Mr. X guy is clearly getting desperate.

Cameron Goodkin:

Then we need to use his desperation against him. Force him to make a mistake.

Maggie Baptiste:

Camille, what have we found on the flash drive?

Camille Engelson:

Well, after fifteen very frustrating and rage-inducing minutes of running into every wall conceivable––I've finally broken through––and I've found something really damning.

(Camille brings up the files from her tablet onto the screen to show 9 identical pictures of Camden. They are all dead.)

The whole cloning thing was a way to continue to try and try to wake this woman up.

Cameron Goodkin:

But, why? Why clone Camden? Why not just start with someone new?

Camille Engelson:

Because, it took them nearly five years to even get Camden to this point. Starting from scratch would set them back at least another five or six years.

Quincy Fisher:

And this guy clearly doesn't have that amount of time. If he wants to save his daughter.

Camille Engelson:

Right. Anyway, I've found that there was something missing from the first nine tries. What that was, is unknown to our mystery psychopath. That's why he needed the flash drive.

Maggie Baptiste:

So, he doesn't know what's missing?

Camille Engelson:

No, and he can't do it, otherwise he would run the risk of not only killing Camden but also his daughter.

Cameron Goodkin:

Ok, so, what is it?

Camille Engelson:

In order for Camden to wake the woman up. He will need to give his life.

Kirsten Clark:

Wait what?

Camille Engelson:

The reason why the other times were failures, was because, they rejected the attempts. They fought it and so their minds broke causing the experiment to malfunction. And every time they did, it would hurt the woman's mind little by little. Until she would finally die. That's why she doesn't have long. This whole thing is killing her.

Cameron Goodkin:

Wait a minute. What are you saying?

Camille Engelson:

It's transference or something. In order for this to work. Camden has to transfer his mental energy into hers, thus, taking her mental energy into himself. This will restart her mind

Kirsten Clark:

But she's in a coma?

Camille Engelson:

Hence the reason why he would die. It would be a one-sided transference, Camden giving his mental energy to her to allow her to wake up, and he taking her energy into himself, thus killing him. Also, this is why Valerie and Tobias broke him out before this could happen, before this man found out about what was going on. It's all here on the flash drive. Camden tried it once, rejected the transfer, and then he fell unconscious for three days––woke up with amnesia.

Quincy Fisher:

So, this man is going to force Camden to sacrifice his life, in order to save his daughter?

Camille Engelson: (Looks at Fisher.)

Yeah. It has to be a conscious decision. Otherwise, Camden's mind is far too powerful; anyone caught in there will not survive the attempt.

Kirsten Clark:

Now that we know this I think we can stop him. Is there a way to get hold of him?

Quincy Fisher:

We've managed to get a hold of the phone he was using to contact us.

Camille Engelson:

Ok, but it can't be you.

Kirsten Clark:

Camille, this is my son we're talking about here.

Camille Engelson:

Exactly the reason why you shouldn't be the one doing this. Kirsten, he will sense something is up, and he'll be on his guard. We need someone who he can let his guard down with.

Maggie Baptiste:

Who may that be?

Camille Engelson:

Me. He was going to make a deal with me. Obviously he thinks that I can be persuaded to betray you guys. Let's play that to our advantage.

Maggie Baptiste: (Looks at Kirsten.)

He's your son. What do you want to do? We'll be with you every step of the way.

(Kirsten stays silent for a short while unsure of what to say. The room is quiet, everyone is waiting for an answer. Kirsten looks at everyone and nods her head.)

Kirsten Clark:

Let's end this. Let's take this guy down and save my son––

(Looks at Cameron.)

Our son.

(Cameron smiles at her and nods his head.)

Maggie Baptiste:

All right, boys and girls, we have our plan. Let's not screw it up.

(Everyone walks out of the room leaving Cameron and Kirsten alone.)

Cameron Goodkin:

We're going to do this. You know that right?

Kirsten Clark:

Yeah I do. I've been thinking. When this is over, what's going to happen to Camden?

Cameron Goodkin:

What do you mean?

Kirsten Clark:

I mean, am I going to adopt him? Am I going to take him in and be his mother? Can I be a mother? I have no idea. Honestly, getting Camden back, scares me a lot more than not. If that makes any sense.

Cameron Goodkin:

Hey, we are going to get Camden back. Then, you can figure it out.

Kirsten Clark:

I just know I don't want to do this alone.

Cameron Goodkin:

Whatever you decide. We'll be there. I'll be there. Look let's get Camden back. Then, when he is back, and he's in your arms, and you look into his eyes, then make your decision. Let him go––or be his mom.

Kirsten Clark:

That is not fair––at all.

Cameron Goodkin: (Smirks at her.)

I know.

(Cameron stands up and walks out of the room leaving Kirsten alone to think about what she should do.)

FADE OUT

Scene 7

OVERSIGHT LAB-CAMDEN'S ROOM:

(Camden tries to open the window so he could escape. However, it is proving to be very difficult for him to do. The door opens and he quickly stops and sits back on the bed trying to look as though he is doing nothing. Mr. X enters and smiles at him. He walks over to the window and takes out a key unlocking it. He lightly lifts it up an inch. Camden looks at him shocked. Mr. X smiles at him and walks to the door. He turns to him and smirks.)

Mr. X:

I thought you could use some fresh air. Seeing how you were trying so hard to open that window. I did it for you.

(Mr. X turns around and starts walking out of the room. He stops and turns to him.)

Oh, and just so you know, we are surrounded by thirty miles of wild woods. Anyone caught out there will surely get lost. And seeing how we are miles away from civilization––and also the fact that these woods have been all but forgotten for years––it's doubtful anyone will find you in time.

(He turns around and walks out of the room closing the door. Camden hangs his head in defeat.)

FADE TO BLACK

OPENS TO MILLIE'S ROOM:

(Mr. X is sitting by his daughter's bedside. He has a somber look on his face. He places his hand on her shoulder and kisses her forehead.)

Mr. X:

Soon, pumpkin, soon you will wake up.

(He stands up and takes a heavy sigh. His phone rings and he answers it.)

Well, this is interesting. You're calling me for once. Does this mean we've reached a new level in our relationship?

Camille Engelson: (Over the phone.)

Haha, very funny, jackass.

CUTS TO THE STITCHERS LAB:

(Camille and everyone else are sitting around the conference room.)

Camille Engelson:

I have a proposition for you.

Mr. X: (Over the phone.)

Oh? (Chuckles to himself.) And what's that?

Camille Engelson:

I want you to leave me and my friends alone. And in return I'll give you the flash drive.

CUTS TO THE OVERSIGHT LAB:

(Mr. X smirks and laughs to himself.)

Mr. X:

My dear Camille. What makes you think I'm the least bit interested in anything you want?

Camille Engelson: (Over the phone.)

How's your daughter?

(Mr. X's expression turns from casual and playful to very serious.)

CUTS TO THE STITCHERS LAB:

Camille Engelson:

Yeah, we know. The whole reason why you want Camden. It's so he can stitch into your daughter's mind and wake her up from her coma. If I recall, she doesn't have long does she? So, every second counts, and suddenly, it's your ass against the wall.

CUTS TO THE OVESIGHT LAB:

(Mr. X chuckles quietly at the unrestrained arrogance that Camille is showing.)

Mr. X:

My, quite brazen aren't we, Miss. Engelson? But, let us not forget our time that we shared in your room.

CUTS TO THE STITCHERS LAB:

(Camille's confident expression lightly falters a little.)

Mr. X: (Over the phone.)

After all––you did scream––so lovely.

Camille Engelson:

All right, listen Silence of the Lambs, either you want this flash drive––or you can kiss your daughter goodbye––literally.

CUTS TO THE OVERSIGHT LAB:

(Mr. X looks down at his daughter. He thinks about his options for a second and scoffs.)

Mr. X:

Fine––

(Looks up and shakes his head.)

What do you want?

Camille Engelson: (Over the phone.)

I want your word that you'll leave us alone.

Mr. X:

Yes, yes, I will leave you and your friends alone––anything else?

CUTS TO THE STITCHERS LAB:

Camille Engelson:

I also want to know how Camden is. If he's all right.

Mr. X: (Over the phone.)

Why would you care? You nearly gave him up to me. Even held your friends at gunpoint––all to get your friend back.

Camille Engelson:

Yeah, I know what I did. I still care about the kid, all right.

Mr. X:

Fine. Where will this interaction take place?

Camille Engelson:

The Jade Fog––two hours.

Mr. X:

Very well then. Just so you know––if I don't walk out of there––with the flash drive––my men will have orders to shoot Camden dead. Bye now.

(Mr. X hangs up the phone. Camille looks at everyone.)

Camille Engelson:

Well, no going back now. Let's end this.

CUTS TO THE OVERSIGHT LAB:

(Mr. X looks at his daughter still in a coma. He walks out of the room. The brainwave monitor attached to Millie, lightly flutters, as her eyelids begin to move.)

FADE OUT

Scene 8

INT.: THE JADE FOG-ATOP THE STITCHERS LAB:

(Camille sits down in the middle of the empty restaurant.

EXT.: THE JADE FOG-ENTRANCE:

(Mr. X drives up to the front of the restaurant, turns off his car, and gets out. He walks to the door and enters.)

INT.: THE JADE FOG:

(Mr. X stands in the front looking at Camille sitting alone in the center. He checks the surroundings to see if there is anyone else but sees no one. He looks at her and smirks.)

Mr. X:

Well, this is very––cavalier of you. I'd expected more from the woman whom I stabbed––twice.

Camille Engelson:

Sit down.

(Mr. X walks over to the table, pulls out the chair, and sits down opposite Camille. Camille stares at him with an icy and domineering glare. Mr. X, mockingly and playfully, shudders in mock fear of her.)

Mr. X:

I love that look in your eye, Miss. Engelson. If only we weren't here on––less than friendly terms.

Camille Engelson:

Yeah, put it back in your pants creepo. You're way too old for me.

(Mr. X chuckles and shakes his head amused.)

Mr. X:

So, what are we here for?

Camille Engelson:

Like I told you on the phone. I want your word that you would leave me and my friends alone.

Mr. X:

Do you want that in writing––or––would simple handshake suffice?

Camille Engelson:

And, I also want to know if Camden is all right.

Mr. X:

I still don't understand why you would care.

Camille Engelson:

Call it a favor to a friend.

Mr. X:

Ah, yes, the young Miss. Clark. Tell me, how is she doing with her son's current––predicament?

Camille Engelson:

I just want to know if Camden is all right.

Mr. X:

Yes, yes, he's fine. As a matter of fact––the whole video and dead clone was all his idea. He wanted to make sure that none of you would get the idea to come and save him. I guess it was his way of saying thank you for helping him.

Camille Engelson:

Yeah, that's a very messed up thing to do.

Mr. X: (Shrugs nonchalantly.)

How should I know? Do you have the file or not? Camille. Stop trying my patience.

(Camille reaches into her pocket and takes out the flash drive. She shows it to him. He reaches over the table to take it. Camille puts it away before he could. Mr. X sits back and looks at her patiently.)

Mr. X:

What now?

Camille Engelson:

Camden. How do I know that what your saying isn't complete bullshit. That you really did kill him and all of this is just some sick twisted game.

Mr. X:

Then what do you want?

Camille Engelson:

I want to talk to him.

(Mr. X looks around the room.)

Mr. X:

Awfully curious––a restaurant like this––being empty on a day like today.

(Looks at her.)

It's almost as if your planning something.

Camille Engelson:

I want to talk to Camden. Now.

Mr. X:

Fine.

(Mr. X opens his trench coat and takes out his phone. He inputs a number and puts it on speaker, placing it on the table. The phone rings and the sound echoes throughout the room. Someone finally picks up the phone.)

Soldier:

Hello, sir?

Mr. X:

Put Camden on the phone.

Soldier:

Um, for what purpose sir?

Mr. X:

Don't ask stupid questions boy. Just do it.

Soldier:

Yes sir.

(The soldier walks to Camden's room and hands him the phone.)

Camden Knight:

H-hello.

Camille Engelson:

Camden your all right buddy?

Camden Knight:

Aunt Camille, what's going on?

Camille Engelson:

Don't worry. You’re going to be just fine.

Mr. X:

Come now. There's no need to lie to the boy.

(Camille looks at him very angry. Mr. X hangs up the phone and puts it away.)

Now, about that flash drive?

Camille Engelson:

Yeah, about that.

(Turns to behind her.)

Now!

(Suddenly, soldiers with guns appear in the room, from tables and doors. Some of them even enter from the front door and places guns to Mr. X's neck. Mr. X laughs clearly bemused and entertained.)

Mr. X:

Well, this––is––a shock. Really, I'm taken back.

(Camille pulls out a gun and points it at him.)

Camille Engelson:

Ok, new deal. You give back Camden. And I won't ruin the floors with your brains.

(Mr. X chuckles and puts up his hands.)

Mr. X: (Mocking.)

Please don't shoot. I'm unarmed.

(Mr. X puts down his hands smiles and shakes his head. He looks around to see about eighteen soldiers holding guns to his head.)

Mr. X:

Well done. I'm cornered. Just––one thing. You see––you thought a move ahead and got me. But, you didn't think––two moves.

(Mr. X snaps his fingers and from the side door. His soldiers walked into the restaurant. Three soldiers hold Cameron, Kirsten, and Maggie at gunpoint. Camille looks at them shocked and unsure of what she should do next.)

In case you were wondering what happens now.

(Camille looks at him.)

Well, this would usually be the part where you give up.

(Camille points her gun at him. The soldiers all point their guns at the three soldiers.)

Camille Engelson:

I still have more guys than you. You're going to let my friends go and then your going to give Camden back.

Mr. X:

Oh, about that. You see, I've always been quite the paranoid man. What happens if someone finds out about what I'm doing? Then it came to me. There's nothing to find out about––if it's all nothing but a pile of rubble.

Camille Engelson:

What?

Mr. X:

I have explosives under my lab site. And my men are under orders to evacuate my daughter and everyone else––except little Camden. Who will be confined to his room while the entire place goes up in flames.

Camille Engelson: (Slightly off-guard.)

You're bluffing. No, Camden is everything you've ever wanted, he's what you need to get your daughter back. You kill him––you kill your daughter.

(Mr. X takes out a detonator device and shows it to her.)

Mr. X:

My dear, I never bluff. And as for my daughter. The scientists have managed to keep her alive for at least three more years. And Camden, I've made sure that there are at least––five more test subjects in a safe location––just waiting to be woken. So, you see, you’re the one who's cornered. You thought you held all the cards. But, it was I who had the better hand.

(Camille lowers her gaze and her gun to the table. She looks at the table dejected and as if she lost.)

So, what do you intend on doing now? Miss. Engelson?

Camille Engelson:

I think you should check in.

Mr. X: (Smirks confused and unsure.)

Excuse me?

(Camille looks at him smiling.)

Camille Engelson:

I said, I think you should check in with one of your guys. Cause, I think they're in a bit of mess.

(Mr. X stops smiling and stares at her trying to figure out what she was playing at. He takes out his cellphone and dials a number. He places it up to his ear and suddenly he hears gunshots coming from the other side of the phone.)

Mr. X:

Hello?

(No answer.)

Hello! What's going on?

(Camille laughs at him. Mr. X looks at her waiting for an answer.)

Camille Engelson:

Fooled ya.

(Mr. X puts away his cell phone.)

Mr. X: (Very serious.)

You sent soldiers to attack my compound while I was here?

Camille Engelson:

Just wanted to get the king out of his tower.

(The soldiers in the restaurant advance on the soldiers holding Camille's friends hostage. The men reluctantly and begrudgingly let them go and put their guns down feeling outnumbered.)

Mr. X:

I can still blow the entire compound. Killing all of your men and little Camden.

Camille Engelson:

Yeah, but then you'll be killing your daughter. Are you willing to do that? Something tells me your not. After all––what would you be fighting for then? If your daughter is dead?

(Mr. X looks down at the table. He takes in a deep sigh and places the device on the table finally defeated. The front doors open and Fisher enters gun pointed at his head. He picks him up and slams him headfirst bent over the table. His gun pressed into his head.)

Quincy Fisher:

Don't move asshole.

(Camille smiles triumphantly at her friend. She leans down to look him in his eyes.)

Camille Engelson:

Revenge is a biatch, don'tcha think?

(Mr. X looks at her annoyed. Camille looks at Fisher and smiles at him. Fisher smiles back at her. He puts handcuffs on Mr. X's wrists. Kirsten and Cameron both look at each other full of hope that their son would return to them safely.)

FADE OUT

Scene 9

OUTSIDE OF THE JADE FOG:

(The streets are full with cop cars swat vehicles and ambulances. One of the cars comes to a stop. A man opens the back door, and from the back Camden steps out alive and unharmed. Kirsten and Cameron turn to see him. Kirsten drops her blanket and rushes towards him. Camden runs to her and they stop in an embrace. Kirsten picks him up and hugs him tightly. He hugs her back just as tight. Cameron hurries to their side and places a hand on his back. Camden looks at him and smiles.)

Cameron Goodkin:

Its good to have you back, kiddo.

Camden Knight:

Thanks––Dad.

Kirsten Clark:

I thought I lost you.

(Camden looks at her.)

Camden Knight:

I'm sorry Mom. I just wanted you to be safe.

(Camden looks away in shame.)

Kirsten Clark:

Hey––I'm the mother. That makes keeping you safe my responsibility.

Cameron Goodkin:

Both of our responsibilities.

(Camden looks at him.)

You're my son. And no matter what––I'm always going to keep you safe.

Kirsten Clark:

And if you ever do something like that again. You're going to be grounded until your thirty.

(Camden smiles and lightly laughs at her. Kirsten hugs him and he lays his head on her shoulder.)

Camden Knight:

I love you mom.

Kirsten Clark:

I love you too.

(Cameron hugs them both. Camden smiles at them feeling safe in his parents' arms. One of the soldiers walks over to Fisher.)

Soldier:

Excuse me sir.

(Fisher looks at him.)

We've found a young woman waking up from some sort of––I don't know, coma.

(The soldier nods to another car. The door opens and a young woman steps out of the car. Mr. X looks at her shocked and unable to say anything. His daughter is alive and well. Fisher looks at her knowing exactly what is going on.)

Soldier:

What should we do with her?

Quincy Fisher:

Take her to the hospital. See if she has any family.

Soldier:

Yes sir.

(Soldier walks away. Camille walks over to Fisher and stands beside him watching on at the young family reunion. She smiles at him and he smiles back at her. Kirsten, Cameron, and Camden all stood there in embrace.)

FADE OUT

Scene 10

EXT.: JADE FOG:

(Kirsten, Cameron, and Camden walk to the Jade Fog. Kirsten has her hands wrapped around Camden's eyes. Camden is trying to break away but cannot.)

Camden Knight:

Mom. What is going on? Where are we?

Kirsten Clark:

Hold on, we're almost there, ok.

Cameron Goodkin:

It's a surprise buddy. Don't worry.

(Cameron opens the door and Kirsten enters with Camden. Cameron enters after and they all stand in the front of the store. Kirsten looks down at her son and smiles at his lost and confused expression.)

Camden Knight:

Ok Mom, can I look now?

(Kirsten takes away her hands. Camden looks around and sees a dark restaurant. Camille turns on the lights and everyone jumps out from their hiding spots.)

Everyone:

Surprise!

(Camden takes a stunned step back into his mother. He looks up at her trying to figure out what is going on. He looks back at everything and sees a banner, streamers, balloons, and even a cake in the middle of the room with the number nine in it. Tears come to his eyes as he sees everything and realizes that it is for him.)

Kirsten Clark:

Happy birthday Camden.

Cameron Goodkin:

And it's not just a birthday party either.

(Cameron walks into the restaurant and turns to them.)

It's a welcome home party.

Kirsten Clark:

If you want. I would like to adopt you and give you a home. A family.

(Camden turns to her. Kirsten kneels down and places her hands on his shoulders.)

I don't know if I can be everything you need me to be. I don't know if I can give you a normal, happy life. But, I promise you, I will try my best. Both me––

(Kirsten stands up and walks over to stand beside Cameron.)

And your father.

(Camden stands there silently looking at all of them. Their faces smiling at them and waiting for an answer.)

Camden Knight:

I never––really knew––what it meant to have a family. To––have people who care for me and love me. I don't care about having a normal life. And as long as I'm with you guys. I'll always be happy. Cause, you are my family––and that'll never change.

Kirsten Clark:

Well, I guess there's only thing to say––

(Turns to everyone and then back at Camden.)

Everyone: (In unison.)

Welcome home, Camden.

(Camden smiles on happily at all of them. He runs up and hugs his mother. His father hugs them both and Camden stands there smiling with his family.)

Quincy Fisher:

Now, time for cake.

(Everyone laughs at him. Camden, Kirsten, and Cameron look at him smiling and laughing along with their friends and family.)
