He beats upon his chest

As if pounding on a drum

And stirs the souls of finer men

And even lesser ones

He evokes the noble notion

That inside of every one

Beats the hearts of English lions

And blood of yore is pumped

He charges them with their duty

And puts them to the test

And with no finer words of scrutiny

He turns their weakness into their strength

He deals a fatal wound to ego

He rubs out every nerve of fear

And raises spirits as high as eagles

On wings of righteous cheer

And with words so pure and just

The minds of men are changed

And faith and honour soon restored

To him that kept his hope aflame

Those that thought themselves so lost

Are rejuvenated by mere words

And now

This rabble

This rank

These men-

This band of weary warriors

See the beginning is near

The end
