The Triple Tree

Nine feet of beem

multiplied by three

and eighteen from the ground

stood the triple tree

room for twentyfour

when hanging by the neck

working rope on wood from sunrise till sunset

A graphic subject, sympathetically told. These poems are very good.

I'm sorry,I have to disagree with Dibs(who is very wise.)
I feel no value judgement in this poem, you simply state the facts.
I think this makes the words more powerful.
Good writing.
Dee.

I’d have to agree with your point Dee, The Triple Tree literally is The Triple Tree... it is a description. I did feel that the description - when compared to the other gallows poems - was rather sterile, but at the same time set the stage for the readers’ imagination to expand on I guess. I suppose you can say any emotion drawn from this reflects the reader more than the writer as no direct notion is implied? Interesting comment, I don’t usually have the chance to cross examine outside the confines of my own thoughts – this is where the value of sharing publicly shows itself. Thank you for your comment. I’m glad to hear that... it’s an unimposing poem but I was happy with the flow and found that in its simplicity it gives the reader room to adapt it very easily, which is why - in my opinion at least – it tends to change a bit when re-read. Thank you for reading and commenting. Luke
