Do violent video games contribute to youth violence?

Do violent video games contribute to youth violence? I’m sure everyone wants to know the answer to that. Everyone knows that there’s almost not one nonviolent video game out there, well there obviously is but you really have to dig deep to find them.

I do think that violent video games contribute to youth violence. My research has all pointed to the signs of yes.

First of all there’s a FBI report from 2000 that includes playing violent video games in a list of behaviors associated with school shootings. Also I have found that violent video games cause players to associate pleasure and happiness with the ability to cause pain in others. says that Short-term exposure increases the likelihood of physically and verbally aggressive behavior, aggressive thoughts, and aggressive emotions. Recent large-scale longitudinal studies provide converging evidence linking frequent exposure to violent media in childhood with aggression later in life, including physical assaults and spouse abuse. ABC news says; the research base is large; diverse in methods, samples, and media genres; and consistent in overall findings. The evidence is clearest within the most extensively researched domain, television and film violence.

Some video games have led to the cost of their life. There was a kid no older than 17 who had bought his favorite game Halo his mom didn’t approve of the game and locked it in the gun safe. That night he took the keys to the safe and got his game back, but he also took the gun. He held it behind his back and told his parents he had “surprise” for them. He had shot them both in the head and his mother several times, his father survived. They think he was influenced by the video game to kill in real life. But unlike in the games you only have one life.

But it’s not just video games. It’s the entire media! Think about it, there are action movies, T.V. shows, and even books! Starting with kids shows there’s power rangers for example. They say super heroes are good because they beat up the bad guys, but there’s the key word there “beat” there encouraging kids that it’s a good thing. Just like in the video games. They are playing the good guys in the games so they think it’s a good think to kill or be the hero.

A new study shows on ABC news shows Watching violent television programs or video games may affect children's minds even if they don't have a history of aggressive behavior. Not convinced yet? Try this. Researchers found nonaggressive children who had been exposed to high levels of media violence had similar patterns of activity in an area of the brain linked to self-control and attention as aggressive children who had been diagnosed with disruptive behavior disorder.

All of these examples point to yes. Media is too violent now a days and the outcome of it is violent behavior from children. Video games do contribute to youth violent, no argument there for me.
