I wrote this as a challenge from "angellynn". She chose the title and I wrote the poem.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I saw her smile just one last time
And then I watched her close her eyes.
I wished against the will of time
That this time would not be goodbye.

I touched her face and felt her leave
The body that had once loved me.
I tried to find my tears to grieve
But only found these memories.

Please tell me how you remedy
The torture of remembering
Every word she said to me,
So bitter-sweet in their healing.

Why can I not let go, forget –
Revealing my true emptiness.
I miss her still with no regrets,
But cannot fill my loneliness.

I saw her smile just one last time
And then I watched her close her eyes.

I tried to find my tears to grieve
But only found these memories.
