Hey guys, this is a short story I wrote for Epicgurl123's short story contest. Hope you like it :)

I couldn’t take my eyes away from the bright lights that hung off the trees. The snow was falling, the temperature was dropping, and the town square ice rink was set up, it was finally Christmas. I brushed a piece of my wavy caramel coloured hair away from my pale face.

“Chloe, there you are”, I didn’t even bother turning around. I knew it was my brother David.

“I’m enjoying the children skating, aren’t they cute”, I pointed out at a young girl and boy holding hands well skating around the ice rink.

“Yeah just perfect, Blake is going to be here soon. We better go meet him”, and with that David walked off towards the bus stop just up the street.

My stomach did a flip flop just thinking about finally seeing Blake. It had been 3 months since we had last seen each other. Blake had gone off to school leaving me behind to finish my senior year. We met our freshman year and well the rest is history. Blake had finally decided to go out of state for school. It was a huge decision, one I had not practically agreed with. Just days before he was set to leave, Blake took me to the town square where we first met. With one swift movement he got down on one knee and asked I one day would be his wife. Of course I had said yes, if you knew Blake you would to.

I turned around and walked towards the bus stop. Blake had made it a habit to talk everyday whether it was Skyping or just talking on the phone. I moved my hands down to my stomach that was now getting bigger. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I was pregnant with Blake’s baby.

“You nervous”, my brother asked me quietly.

“I just hope he isn’t mad”, I turned to my brother.

He felt my pain; he had to put up with all my complaining over the past 4 months. When Blake left for school I had been too scared to tell him that I was carrying his baby. I figured I would tell him over the phone one day. But now here we were, Christmas Eve and he still didn’t know. He was in for the surprise of his life. Up until this month I hadn’t really been showing, I was able to hide it. Now it was slowly getting harder, I knew I had to tell him.

“There’s the bus”, David’s voice got louder as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder.

I watched the bus park. One by one people started to get off. I wasn’t sure if I was going to throw up or faint. And then I saw him. His blonde hair was now short, his hazel eyes looked tired. His pale skin told me he hadn’t slept in days either. But he still looked perfect to me.

“Blake”, I heard David yell as he went to greet him. My feet were planted firmly on the ground though, I was way too nervous to move.

“Hey man”, Blake hugged David before he picked up his duffel bag and made his way over to the curb where I was standing.

“Hi babe, Merry Christmas…”, before he could even finish his sentence I jumped into his arms.

“I missed you”, I muttered into his chest. Blake’s muscular arms wrapped around me, making me feel safer than I had been in a long time. I pulled away quickly, holding onto his arm for support.

Blake pushed a piece of my hair away from my eyes, “God I’ve missed you. I can’t wait to sit around the fireplace and just hold you”.

He was making me more and more nervous now. I quickly glanced up at him, placing one hand on my growing belly.

“Blake, you know I love you. I’m so glad your home, but I’ve been keeping a secret and I really need to tell you”, Blake looked more confused than ever. I looked up at him, meeting his eyes with mine before looking down at my belly. I took a deep breath.

“You’re pregnant”, he whispered. I let a couple hot tears run down my face before I finally glanced up at Blake. His hazel eyes were sparkling now, he didn’t look upset or hurt. He looked confused and happy.

“I’m so sorry, I wanted to tell you but I didn’t know how. I’m starting to show now, I had to tell you”, I choked out.

Blake grabbed my shoulders and pulled me into his muscular torso.

“Babe, I’m not mad. I’m on top of the world”. I pulled away and looked up at him.

He let his hands rest on my neck, “I love you, no matter what. This is the best Christmas present ever”.

“Oh I’m so glad you’re okay with this, because I was so scared you were going to be mad. I love you so much, we can figure this out”, I caressed his cheek with my soft fingertips.

“We can figure it all out later. I want to spend my day sitting in front of the Christmas tree, drinking coco with you”, he reached down and touched his soft pink lips with mine. In that moment I knew everything was going to be okay.

“Merry Christmas Chloe”, Blake muttered between kisses.

“Merry Christmas Blake”, I smiled against his kiss.

Life has such a funny way of surprising you some times. But every once and a while people step up. They show you what life really is about. And if you’re lucky enough, the person you love, will decide to step up to.  You have the rest of your life ahead of you. And the rest of your life starts now.
