Does it hurt you,

That empty space, where my hand was in yours

Or is it a relief to breathe just for one once more?

Humour me, old lover

Call me a masochist

But I want to know if you’re as broken as I am

It is strange that with just one heart beating,

I don’t feel less, as if you are missing

In fact I feel fuller

As if you were the one who was emptying me

Scoping out my soul like rocky road

With your ice – cream shovel hands

I am not saying this to be cruel

But you must understand

That love shouldn’t be so that when your heart is not in mine

I feel free, cured

Like I can take a full breath

Without having the pressure of your lung on mine

Love should be challenging

You said so yourself

So why can’t you accept that It will take a little work

To like the touch of my hand again

We have been over this

Time and time before

I may have cared once but it doesn’t mean it’s’ right

To spend day after day

Waiting for love to strike me again

To pitch me forward until I’m blinded once more

By the beauty of you

Not when our hands cannot fit, when my smiles are not real

Can’t you see that breathing for one

Is enough for me, without you?
