Not that long ago in a small town the crickets chirped loudly on a hot summer night. That hot summer night was not all good either, you see in a small town they say everyone knows everything but two boys had a secret no one would ever know…

In the summer of 1965 two young boys by the names of Calvin and john were at their year-end class party of their grade 12 year. The two boys never ventured far from each other they were so close yet such different people. John was always the more outgoing of the two always getting into trouble; some people may have said he was the life of the party. Calvin on the other hand was an honor student who always seemed to keep John in check. One of the few things they had in common was when they got drinking they both got out of control.

As the night progressed they both continued drinking and drinking some more until they could hardly stand. A Dear friend of theirs named Connor finally stood up and like a good friend would do and he told them to pace themselves and maybe slow down. The two of them especially John was furious and by the time all of this happened the party had died down and they found the three of them alone by the boat launch.

So boys will be boys and one thing led to another and the two of them started pushing Connor. It was starting to get chilly out and the dock was getting slick. The last push sent Connor flying off the dock. He smashed his head on the ledge then went under water. Calvin and John stared at each other mortified by what just happened. They wanted to help but they could not control their drunken bodies and by the time they figured out how to help it was too late.

Well life went on after the two swore in secrecy never to tell a soul. The town people just figured that he must have slipped and it was an accident. Calvin and John always had this eating at them for as they were living, but dealing with this was a little harder for Calvin he was having a really bad time. A soon as the summer was over the two kind of lost contact with each other. They both eventually married and had kids and all was finally looking good for them for once in a long time.

John walked down the stairs if his Miami beach house and felt the vibrations of his phone he looked down it was a text from a girl in their grad class. John read the entire thing and nearly passed out. He stared at his phone in disbelief his old friend he shared the biggest secret of all with had committed suicide. The funeral was tomorrow. He had to go didn’t he? John called his boss and took tomorrow off.

John picked out his favorite black shirt and tie got in his car and drove to the funeral. He had seen all of his old classmates amongst a crowd of what seemed like a hundred people he saw Calvin’s family for the first time. He had a beautiful wife and two little girls. After the funeral John wanted nothing more than to tell his wife about the good times they have had together, but more importantly he longed to tell her about their secret. In the end he decided not to tell her Calvin wouldn’t want her to have to deal with that on top of everything else. I guess something’s are better going untold…
