A Poem by Maddie B.
(The different rhyme schemes in each stanza represent the changes in the persona as they get older)

As a child you look out the car window

into the black of night

the moon stares back at you

and provides your only light

it follows you to your home

and helps you to the door

it watches you as you sleep

and will be there forever moer

as a teenager you look up

into the night sky

the lights are on

the stars are gone

but the moon is still nearby

when you lose yourself in high school

or just don't seem to fit

the moon's still white

the moon shines bright

and will lift your spirit

as an adult you look past traffic lights

and the moon is hard to see

you remember your childhood dreams

the person you wanted to be

as all those dreams began to change the moon held consistency

when your lfe seemed to fall apart

the moon's still white

the moon shines bright

the moon was there from the start

as an elder you look back on dreams

those that did and did not come true

you look up from your old porch swing

and the moon is staring back at you

as you go through your memories

there is one thing that is true

the moon's still white

the moon shines bright

and was always there for you
