I was in the mood to write something.
I wrote a one page short story last night, but
didn't like it, and deleted it.

Still in the writing mode; I rattled this silly
thing off today. My mate loves it so it looks
like you're all going to get it!

A Valentine Ode

Valentine’s Day was always a nuisance to me
because it just isn’t spring with flowers to see
the merchants cashing in are making me nuts
with chocolate stuff going straight to my butt

My beloved is caught in a catch twenty-two
because his cards seem too costly in my view
he also knows I would just tear him apart
if he dared to forget that I’m his sweetheart

I’m looking back on this occasion last year
and he bought me a gift, grinning ear to ear
a large bouquet, card, and cute little dress
and so delighted with his shopping conquest

The flowers were lovely the card apropos
the dress was in silk not good for a pose
I balked at the color too bright for my skin
now he’s upset; ranting all lost is his grin

Should I have told him about this mistake?
Or place in a drawer for another to take
I took giant steps to remedy the situation
by cooking a meal of outlandish duration

Valentine’s Day is a most necessary time
if nothing more than a chance to remind
I don’t have a problem with that I fear
for he shows his love every day of the year

I hope you like my little story in rhyme
a funny tribute to this husband of mine
we are joined together like peas in a pod
and we love each other; thanks be to God.
