I decided to write this chronicle because in a casual conversation with my cousin, she asked:
- Marcela, are you working?
- Yes, I'm a writer.
- Oh, I know about your books.
- But I meant a real job.
- So, I'm a writer.

I HOPE YOU ENJOY READING! BRAZILIAN KISSES :-)

I decided to write this chronicle because in a casual conversation with my cousin, she asked:

I graduated in social communication with expertise in journalism and I worked in this area for over 20 years. Writing has always been a passion of mine, and as I have always sought new ways in this field, I decided to devote myself to literature. I have participated in several anthologies, published two books and whilst finishing my third one, I have come across a very difficult reality: selling books in Brazil is not easy. Moreover, writing is probably not considered a profession but more of a hobby by so many people.

I believe that after hearing my cousin's statement, the penny dropped! I had expected to plant a seed and reap some good fruit. My books have received praise from various parts of Brazil and abroad, but the sales are not a success yet.

A relevant fact is that the majority of sales have not come from my circle of friends or relatives, but from strangers. The good side of this is that I have made new friends and met people who love and value my work as a writer.

Many of my friends have asked for the book as a gift and I explained that this was my livelihood as follows:

- Imagine that you work the whole month and on your payday your boss says: as you are my friend / relative, I will not pay you. It's like a gift from you to me!

Then I heard the following response:

- Ah, but this situation is different because I work the entire month.

So I gave up trying to explain and shushed myself. In this scenario I began to compare the prices, and if you stop to think about it, a book can cost less than a pizza and the fate of a pizza... everyone already knows! On the other hand, the book will always be there waiting to be read.

Just because you don't need to put in an eight-hour work shift in an office or a factory, and don't need to drive to reach your work destination, it doesn't mean that you do not work. The truth is that for these people everything that deviates from routine and from rules of society does not seem to be right. It seems to make no sense and has no value to them.

The writer is a professional who devotes time to creating stories that take readers on an amazing journey, where feelings go up and down making them smile, suffer, love, and think, among other things. The writer is a lone professional who grows and ages using time to share inspirations with thousands of others readers around the world.

Of course, a writer does not always please everyone. Even the most famous receive negative criticism. However there will always be those who will love their writing. Being a writer is to be exposed without fear, to reveal an outpouring of feelings, and to leave a bit of themselves in each line, in each book, in each story.

My profession: writing, with great pride!
