Which faces do you remember? Are they sincere - or are they hiding something? Is there one you remember long after sleep comes over you?

Bouquet - Marion Peck

i remember
faces:
some round
and rosy
like peaches in
summer,
like apples in

autumn.

some thin
and angular
like gothic
arches,
like daggers
pointing downward.

kind faces
masking
hatred
in eyes
glittering
with
malice...

gaunt
countenances
hiding
kindness,
tongues that speak
with
compassion.

young visages
with old, old
eyes...
old ones
who look upon
the world
with childlike
wonder.

i look
at these
faces,
i remember
each and
every
single
one.

but
the one that
lingers
longest,
long after
i've closed
my eyes
is
yours.
