ABRAM.

God Led me from my homeland,
To follow where He Led.
My wife Sarai, our household, our livestocks and goods,
We moved around with only a tent to lay my head.
What could I do when Yahweh Spoke?
No other god, I'd worshipped before, had cared whether I were alive - or dead!

He Promised me a son,
To carry on my name.
In fact... He Promised so many,
That in my spirit He Lit a flame!
Its Name was Hope, which sprang eternal,
So... to this Promise I did lay claim.

Though Sarai was passed childbearing years,
I believed my chidlren would be as numerous as grains of sand!
Or as many as all the stars that shone in the sky,
Placed there by my God's MIGHTY Hand!
Sarai viewed it humanly - and gave me Hagar, her servant,
Who gave me Ishmael as Sarai had planned.

God changed me from Abram to Abraham,
Sarai was changed to Sarah before she bore our son.
What a shock people had, for she was all of ninety -
And I was a hundred, when our Promise we won!
Hagar was jealous of Isaac, who brought such laughter to us,
Her hopes for Ishmael were undone.

Sarah bade me send Hagar -
And Ishmael on their way...
With a heart so heavy, I did so,
But... for me it was a very bleak day!
But my God is Loving and Caring,
His Promise for Ishmael Gave me the heart's Peace to obey!
