DAVID - THE SHEPHERD.

I started out as a shepherd boy,
My harp was my companion and my joy!
All alone on the hillside steep,
I'd strum my harp as I watched my Father's sheep.
I made music for my God so Fair,
Who Blessed me and had Strengthened me to kill a lion and a bear!

One day a prophet, Samuel, came and annointed me as king,
What a shock I had when this news he did bring!
For Saul was our king and still strong,
Followed by a multitudinous throng.
In time I was brought to play the harp for my king,
To calm his mind and sleep to him bring!

While I was at his camp, Goliath came,
Everyone trembled at his name!
When I offered to kill him, soldiers rolled around with laughter on the grass -
But... I KNEW my God would Bring it to pass!
Five small stones and an aim so true,
With God on MY side, the giant I slew!

Saul was please, as pleased as could be,
He wed me to his daughter... and she saved me...
For Saul had a 'maggot' in his head,
That convinced him that I wanted him dead!
For years he chased me throughout the land,
Only his son, Jonathan, saved me from the death he'd planned!

One night Saul slept in a cave,
I could so easily have sent him to his grave.
Instead... a piece of cloth I cut from his robe to keep,
The showed him, "I could have killed you in your sleep!"
In time Saul and Jonathan, my blood brother and friend, drew their last breath,
But it was not by my hand that they met their deaths!!!
