The smells of autumn are like no other season...

The smells of autumn are like no other season,
Ripe fruits dispense their perfume... to linger on the air!
Richly heady bouquets turning to wine,
Sending insects wild, then drowsily they fly back to their lair!

Vibrant colours are everywhere,
In leaves and flowers, capturing the sun's glow!
Chrysanthemums and dahlias -
I wonder why earwigs love them so?

The leaves are tumbling,
Falling silently to the ground.
At present they haven't much of an aroma,
But (when walked on) make a satisfying 'scrunching' sound!

Busy women making jams and pickles,
To fill their pantry store.
Becoming evocative of a bygone age -
Before the supermarkets - as in the days of yore!

Tiny creatures snuffle their way,
Across the leaf littered ground.
Trying to find his, or her, winter store...
Without making too much 'cat attracting sound'!

Spiders, huge and fat,
Are stretching enormous webs around.
Trying to have their fill too,
Before in winter's grip their world becomes bound!

The golden fields of ripening corn,
Are being turned to brown...
As the corn is reaped, the soil is turned -
And a different crop is sown!

Although the season herald's summer's 'death',
Her fruit and colours triumphantly glow.
In seeds laid down so willingly by nature,
In spring they'll burst into life, Your Glory yet again to show!
