"WELL, I DON'T KNOW..."

"Well, I don't know...
The day started like any other!
Busier than usual, because of the census, you see!
Good news for us inn keepers, but for those travelling it was a lot of bother!"

"Well, I don't know...
What was I supposed to say?
My home was bursting at the seams,
When they came to me that day!"

"Well, I don't know...
I did feel so sorry for the girl - her time was near, it was plain to see!
I had to say we had no room...
It fair broke my heart to say so, especially when she shyly smiled at me!"

"Well, I don't know...
Suddenly I called them back, as their weary way they made!
"There's a stable... well really a cave in the wall...
You're welcome to it!"... and so they stayed!"

"Well, I don't know...
Others came to visit them once the babe was born!
I thought that it would be like any other babe,
But This One was different I could have sworn!"

"Well, I don't know...
They've gone now, happily on their way!
 I don't suppose I'll see them again,
But...I'm glad they stayed, I have to say!"
