I thought I loved him, and maybe I still do, but after what he did, I don’t know if I can ever forgive him. After he did it, he said “I’m sorry,” but I don’t think he really meant it. I’ll have these scars forever, even though no one else can see them. He’s at the house now so I should go.

I walk slowly down the stairs to meet him making sure to cover up the scars he made on my petite body. He is talking to my mother, always sweet and unsuspecting.

“Hey,” he says.

I fake a smile and say hello back. I look at him, noticing every detail about him. His eyes are like fire that could burn right through you, and his hair is a rich blonde color that reminds me of the golden sun. I can’t help but love him, no one can.

“Bye, mom,” I say as Adam and I go out the door. It’s a blazing hot summer day outside with a hint of a breeze, just the way I like it. He grabs my hand and we walk all around our small town.

“I’m sorry about this morning, Casey. I didn’t mean to hurt you like that.”

“Just try not to do it again, okay?” I say carefully, trying not to make him mad.

“Don’t worry, I won’t. Just try not to make me mad again.”

My mind floods with thoughts of what happened earlier. Adam’s mother has a new boyfriend and doesn’t really pay any attention to Adam anymore. He always vents to me and tells me his problems, which I’m definitely happy to help with, but sometimes everything just goes in a whole different direction. He started to throw light things that didn’t matter when you hit something else, like pillows . After throwing those though, he started to throw chairs, which easily turned into lamps, which then eventually turned into me. He slammed my small, fragile body into his desk full of things. I screamed and no one heard except him. Once I started to get scared, I hid in a corner and started to cry. When he heard me and realized what he was doing, he snapped back into reality and saw what he had done to me. This whole experience wouldn’t even be that big of a deal if it had just happened this once, but it’s kind of a regular occurrence with him.

“Casey?” he asks.

“Huh?” I say completely unaware of what he just said. I was in the midst of a flashback.

“I said that I love you more than words can describe. I hope we never lose each other.”

“Me too.”

He kisses so gently that I think I’m dreaming this. I hug him for the longest time after that one special moment. I know we are going to his house again. When I step into his room, I see that he’s straightened up everything just like nothing ever even happened.

“I have to go to the bathroom quick,” I lie. I walk into the bathroom and slowly shut the door. They have a full length mirror on the door to the closet. I pull up the end of my shirt to try to see my back. There is a bright red cut which is probably about five inches in length. I touch it, and it is extremely sensitive. “Ouch.” I don’t really know why I did that. I walk back out to where Adam is waiting for me.

“What took you so long?” he asks.

“I don’t know. I didn’t think it took me that long,” I answer, confused by his tone of voice.

I give him a weird look, and he throws his alarm clock at me, but I dodge it. “What’s with you today?” I ask annoyed.

“You think something’s wrong with me?” he says getting angrier.

“No, of course not.” After I answer, I know something bad is going to happen.

Adam comes at me, but there’s nothing in his hands, thank God. I’m powerless against him though. His fists are strong and I’m defenseless. He ends up punching me right in the eye and it begins to water. I swallow hard and try with all of my willpower to fight Adam. I turn away and attempt to pick up something heavy that might actually hurt him.

“Please stop,” I beg him, but he isn’t snapping out of it like he did last time.

He takes me and smashes me against his mirror, and surprisingly it doesn’t break. A door slams in a different room, and I hear his mother’s voice say, “Adam? Are you here?” He stops and throws me onto the bed. He then goes out of his room to tend to his mother.

I am now sobbing as I sit up and try to catch my breath. I think my arm might possibly be broken because it hurts to move it.

When Adam comes back in he acts again like nothing happened. I’m incredibly confused, sad, and hurt all at the same time. I so badly want to break up with him, but I’m scared out of my mind. I’m going to slowly die if I don’t learn to stick up for myself though. Even if it kills me, I will always love Adam. It may be a strange love, but it’s our love. The weird thing is, I will keep on loving him, even though I know that this will all just happen again tomorrow…the same as always.
