To watch

As they scream at each other

Is frightening

Black lines smear my cheeks

Shivering

This house is so cold

Why don't they turn off the AC?

I'm trapped in the computer

With hours upon hours

Of homework glaring through

The electronic screen

I don't see my family

Anymore

Missing them

So much

Sometimes

I can't stand them

Sister screams at stepmother

Stepmother screams at sister

The cycle repeats

The people at the hospital

Where I volunteer

See me as that quiet girl

Who is excellent with the call bell system

And always ready to help

She seems older than she really is

I need to clean my room

But there is no time

Time for life or for love or for

And how does he feel

About me?

Always, I remember

His eyes

Bright, honest, adoring, yearning

Blue and soft staring

Into my own brown ones

As we dance on the berber-clad floor

Barefoot

When did life get so crazy?
